Thanks to Jason and Cath O'Donnell and Peter Ross who will be representing the Macksville-Scotts Head SLSC and our school at the award night held in Sydney. Thanks to everyone for the support at the Opening of the Bush Tucker Track that occurred on Friday, a great community event. Find included is a letter from Luke Hartsuyker MP who sent his apologies on the day. We had representatives from various local government and non government services and local community groups. The opening was started with a great song from the Year 3/4 class “My Island Home”, under the musical guidance of Bu Ani. A welcome was delivered by Uncle Gary Williams from the Muurrbay Language Centre, then a traditional Gumbaynggirr song was sung beautifully by Michael Jarrett. Stephen Donovan then played the didgeridoo with passion and pride, before his Uncle Richie Donavan, then introduced his son Clayton Donavan who then did a fantastic, cooking demo using Bush Tucker. The elders and guests then shared morning tea. A huge thank you to Jill Ashley and the TAFE Midday Munchies Catering service for the delicious catering. A great occasion where many great community members were honoured for their involvement in the vision of the Gumbaynggirr pathway of knowledge. Thanks to all the staff and parents who helped make the day a huge success. Thanks to the students from Melville HS under the supervision of Emily King, who were using their filming talents to document the day with a future film that can be shared and experienced by all that could not come along on the day. Presently I am taking some Long Service Leave so I can support my family in Victoria. The school is in great hands under the leadership of Bu Ani. Thanks for all for your support. On Wednesday the 3rd August, Dane

Certificate the Magician came to our school.

He performed many tricks, some of them

were pulling a rabbit out of a bag, making

doves appear, finding coins behind the

kindergarten kids ears and metal ring tricks.

It was entertaining. Some students were

lucky enough to hold the animals. By Zach

It was fantastic to see someone amaze and bewilder

the students and staff with original tricks and illusions.

The looks on the kids faces was brilliant. By Pak Roy

He was amazing and I loved how tricky the doves were.

By Zaki

I couldn't believe my eyes. Like how does he do that

stuff. By Peyton

I liked when the ball came out of the case. By Cobie

Dane Certificate the Magician

In Kindergarten this term we are learning and

investigating a new concept called 'Paddock to Plate’

with the key question,

"What do we know about where our food comes from

and how it gets to us from farms and factories?"

Last week we investigated the journey of flour. Beginning

from a crop of wheat to being processed in different

ways for different purposes. We learnt that flour makes

bread, pasta, pastry, cakes, scones, this list goes on!

Last Tuesday we fired up the wood fire pizza oven and made delicious

damper and banana bread using white flour and whole wheat flour. It was

a great success! Just the thing to do on a brisk winters day!

This week we are learning about the journey of milk!

Budding Scientists in Kindergarten are

cooking up a treat!

Dane the Magician delivered a

spell binding performance! From

the beginning to the end of his

magic show, he held his audience

captivated and entertained with a

variety amazing magic tricks.

Beautiful coloured doves appeared

from nowhere, a very cute fluffy

rabbit made the children smile,

endless string coming out of

Dane's mouth, "How does he do

that?" were the whispers from

audience as they were completely

bewildered and astonished by his

incredible tricks! A wonderful

experience for young and old!

Hello Scotts Head community,

The past six years at SHPS have been a wonderful experience

and getting to know the students and families has been a

highlight of my career. The independence and kindness of the

SHPS kids is something to be proud of as a community.

Thanks to Gillian, Angie and the rest of the staff for the

friendship, support and laughs throughout the years. I have

begun a new position as a relieving Assistant Principal until

the end of 2016 but please make sure that you save me a

seat at the Year 6 Farewell and Presentation Day! Bu Brooke

Weekly round up

The Official Opening of the Bush Tucker Track

Education Week—Opening of the Bush Tucker Track and NAIDOC Celebrations

Scotts Head Public School on Friday was host for a strong and united community to celebrate the opening of their Bush

Tucker Track.

From the initial smoking ceremony and traditional Gumbaynggirr songs to the heartfelt vibrations resonating through the

sound of the timeless didgeridoo Scotts Head school’s heart beat strong, loud and proud. A large crowd watched Richie

Donovan introduce his son Clayton, an internationally renowned chef and delightedly watch a cooking demo in his “pop-

up” kitchen. Elders and guests enjoyed a morning tea made by TAFE students. Our school students along with students

from St Marys, Bowraville Central, Medlow, Kempsey High School and Macksville High School participated in cultural

activities. The cultural activities which were engaging , authentic and thoroughly enjoyed by all. The activities included

Steve Donovan—didge and dancing, Mark Flanders—Bush Tucker Track, Nelli/Wayne—art and environment, games on the

oval with Pak Roy and Gumbaynggirr singing and language with Mila and Bu Bibi.
