Irish culture and Heritage
The Táin and other Early Irish Stories and Sagas

Key Concepts – Provided students ability to critical engage with
the stories and create a climate of enquiry within the Classroom.
Evaluation. – Both myself and Joanna undertook the one teach
one drift method of team teaching. Before each class we had
clear defined roles as two would take the lead during which topic
section as to not to confuses the students. It can be seen that the
student engagement with the topic was sustained and evidence of
a substantive knowledge base has indeed and was evident within
the Irish sections people in history such as Early Christian monk.
Stories and Sagas – Táin Bó Cúailnge, Deirdre of
the Sorrows. Children of Lir, Cú Chulainn . Birth,
Boyhood deeds, Death.

Overview – This short course for 1st year students
was designed to be taught juxtaposed with the
students History classes. Given this, emphasis
was place on linking the stories to archaeological
evidence. Example of this can be seen by teaching
students about the royal centres such as the
Hillforts of Ireland and how the manuscripts would
have been produced.
