REGIONAL CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP The race director of the Longleaf Triathlon is extremely excited about hosting this year’s Club Championship for our region. They want to bring as many clubs to the race as possible so as an incentive they are offering a $10 discount to ANY participant who registers as a member of one of our Florida clubs. This discount is good for both the Sprint as well as the Olympic Distance race (even though only the Olympic distance partici-pants will be scored for points). To get the discount please use the Invitation Code “FLCLUB” on the first page of registration on IMAth-lete. Each participant MUST select a club from the pulldown menu in order to be registered under your club. Each club will submit a roster by September 15

th which will be cross referenced against the IMAthlete

Team Psych will provide marker buoys for sighting practice on a chest deep, 400 meter

shoreline parallel measured course. A brief clinic on open water swimming will be pro-

vided for any novice swimmers. 1/4 mile loop.. These open water swims are designed

to accommodate two groups.

Group one is non-swimmer, the I am afraid to stick my head in the water, don't like water

I cant see the bottom, etc. Become an athlete who would like to be more comfortable in

the water. The goal is to get you ready for your first triathlon.

Group two is the accomplished swimmer refining the open water swim techniques.

This 2012 Scenic 17 Triathlon set a new record with more participants

than the previous year. Team Psych also delivered more skull wear to the event

fashion scene.

The SWAG: If you are quick enough to make it to the top there of your age

group this race offers more than another plaque to put on your wall. Overall

male and female won a full team sized Beer Pitcher! Same for over forty male

and female! Age group winners from top to third

were awarded with Beer Mugs from size colossal to

still damn good size mug of beer.

What the triathlon did not increase over last year

was the number of hills. In my opinion, that’s just

fine. I would say this is the most challenging sprint

size course in the Florida. If you race Clermont

events, trust me this sprint exceeds that challenge

significantly. If they ever extend this to a Olympic

size event, the same may be said over Clermont.

Have your cycling and running at this event, be-

cause its game on once you hit the saddle until you

cross the finishers line.

Speaking of tough. This event had some of the

toughest mature triathletes I have ever seen on a

course. The sixty plus and seventy plus age groups

were a particulary tough grup of men that most forty

year olds would be envious of their prowess on the

course. Leading the charge for Team Psych was

group placing ever, third

place and proud of it.

Feeling tough are members of Team Psych flexing some muscle left over

from a challenging morning at Webber International University campus.

Triathlon Rating: I would first say that this is in El Fuego’s opinion Flor-

ida’s Toughest Sprint Triathlon. The hospitality offered by Webber Univer-

sity students, faculty, and administration, sponsors of the event such as Hawk

Racing, and race director Peter Ornsby was all five skulls! Of particular com-

fort was the well manicured field where transition was located was far supe-

rior to another parking lot. Post race award food, drink and atmosphere were

picture perfect under grand oak trees.

The T Shirt Rating: El Fuego is giving this year’s t shirt a five star rating.

The sporty two color tech t rocked.

The only thing I

could disagree with

race director Peter

Ornsby is that this is not the event to break your Tri Virgin status. It could be

too enough so that a tri virgin could come to the conclusion that triathlons are

just too tough to participate in.
