Teaching and learning change agents – introducing

the modular training approach

31 March 2011

Page 2: Teaching and learning change agents

What will be covered

• Increased sector involvement and participation across all LSIS activity

• What this means for the Teaching and Learning Programme

• The change agent modular training programmes

• Developing a regional infrastructure

Page 3: Teaching and learning change agents

The journey so far

• Embedded a powerful model for continuous improvement in teaching and learning based on successful peer coaching approaches

• Trained a large cohort of change agents and advanced change agents (SLCs, PDAs, E Guides)

• Developed extensive range of resources

• Facilitated communities of practice

What do we mean by the term ‘change agent’?

An individual who:

• is recruited prior to implementation of a change;

• is a well-regarded representative of the area they work in;

• understands the reasoning behind the change;

• helps to communicate the excitement, possibilities and details of the change to others within the organisation;

• has the knowledge, skills and techniques to support their peers to transform the way they work.

Moving forward…..

Continue to drive improvement in teaching and learning and high quality CPD

Increased sector ownership and participation

Ongoing development and training of change agents

Harnessing the collective capacity of change agents

Advanced change agents….a modular approach?

• Increased flexibility and responsiveness to individual

and organisational needs

• Harnessing common skills sets and principles

underpinning all change agent roles

• Opportunities to enhance and extend ‘specialisms’

Possible ‘routes’ for advanced change agents

SLC trained and ALC trained = ACA (SLC)

PDA trained and APDA trained = ACA (PDA)

E-Guide trained and A E-Guide trained = ACA (E- Guide)

PDA trained, E-Guide trained and APDA trained = ACA (PDA) specialising in both PDA and E-Guide cascade training

Page 9: Teaching and learning change agents

Advanced change agents: pathways

Pathway 1:

Existing advanced change agents delivering cascade training to new change agents

Pathway 2:

Existing change agents training to become advanced change agents

Pathway 3:

Aspiring change agents

Activity – Online modules

Harnessing the change agent resources

1. Read the activity handout

2. Discuss the key questions

3. Feedback three ideas for ways in which you

could use the online resources

Activity – ACA modular programme

1. Read the activity handout

2. Discuss the key questions

3. Discuss emerging issues and questions

Page 15: Teaching and learning change agents

Pathway 3: Creating change agents

• Online PDA, E-Guide and SLC materials

• LSIS Learning Fairs to provide additional support

• Opportunity for trained change agents to go on and

become trained as advanced change agents.

Ongoing development

Creating a regional infrastructure to support:

• Delivery

• Assessment

• Moderation

• Recognition
