Course content

These courses are designed for second level teachers who are interested in how technology enhanced learning can be put into practice in their classroom. The course sessions are hands-on workshops which give the teacher lots of practical techniques that they can bring back to their classroom and students and shadowing of real classes where these re being used. The course is delivered through the medium of English, which gives participants an opportunity to refresh and improve their communication skills in an authentic workplace environment. A B2 level of English is recommended.

Note: courses run on a two week cycle, mid-July date comprises week 2 of the 1st cycle and

Course outline

There are between three and five course hours per day, Monday to Friday totalling 20 hours per week. There will also be two afternoon cultural visits.

Course provider

Future learning is a specialist in technology enhanced language learning and activity programmes for second level students. We are committed to delivering innovative and effective technology enhanced language learning in our summer courses and sharing the best practice which we develop through our training programme. This programme offers a mix of English language immersion, cultural exposure and technology enhanced teaching ideas for experienced teachers.

Course location

This teacher training course takes place at our state of the art summer centre in Dublin, Ireland. This summer centre is located in a modern secondary school building which caters for 1,000 students during the year and is less than half an hour by rail from Dublin city centre.

Future Learning’s Erasmus+ PIC

Our Participant Identification Code (PIC) identifies Future Learning as an Erasmus+ training provider. We would be happy to work with your institution to develop an Eramus+ project which includes our teacher training course and that will attract EU funding for professional development through your national agency.

Tuition Fee

Host family accommodation (full board)

Future Learning can provide high quality and local host family accommodation within the area of the school for 14 nights. This will include breakfast, hot lunch at school and evening meal with the family = €495. (number of days accommodation can be varied on request)

Transport

Optional Travel Card for Bus, Rail & Tram (Leap card) for 2 weeks = €100 (recommended)

Course Certification

Future Learning provides certification of both participation in this training course and of the achievement of course objectives. We are also happy to provide Europass mobility certification adapted to meet the sending institution’s requirements and consider any other reasonable requests for customised reporting on the training experience.

Online Tools and Apps

The starting point for teachers who want to make technology work in the classroom is to familiarise themselves with the online tool and apps that they are going to use . There are a series of sessions in week one dedicated to a hands-on introduction to the various types of applications that teachers might want to use with their classes.

Guided Observations

In conjunction with an experienced teacher, you will see a technology enhanced language programme in action at a range of different levels and stages and you will be involved in the classes. Your observations will be guided with observation questions adapted over the week to focus on the areas that interest you most.

ePortfolio

One of the most powerful tools of the technology enhanced approach is the scaffolded online portfolio. In these sessions you will capture and record your observations using a range of media. You will get feedback on your portfolio which aims to help you to explore what you have observe as well as to sharpen your expression of it.

Pedagogy Seminar

These sessions are given by the senior academic staff at Future Learning on the principles of technology enhanced learning and the experience of implementation in a school environment. These sessions will draw on and aim to inform your observations and ePortfolios.

Things to Bring

If you have a tablet that you are familiar with using then please bring it with you. Make sure there is some free storage on it and download chrome, google drive and google docs.

FL Collaboration Platform

You will receive an @flireland.com email address which will provide access to unlimited cloud storage and collaborative platforms for the duration of the course. This email and storage platform will be used throughout the course to access and share resources.

What is Erasmus+?

Erasmus+ is the European programme in the field of education and, as the successor to Comenius, and other similar programmes, it has taken over the funding of training for teachers in other European countries from 2014 to 2020.

What sort of training is funded?

Key Action 1 of Erasmus+ is all about providing opportunities to improve the skills, enhance the employability and develop the cultural awareness of professionals involved in education. It supports participation in a variety of opportunities to broaden knowledge and skills including structured study, and training events in a relevant organisation active in the field of school organisation, such as Future Learning.

Is there funding for second level schools?

All schools that are recognised in their country are supported under this programme and can apply for funding under the heading of mobility for school staff.

What does mobility mean?

Mobility means travelling to avail of professional development opportunities in other programme countries.

Can I apply for Erasmus+ as an individual?

Erasmus+ funding is institution-led. If you would like to know how to get involved in Erasmus+ speak to your school or college.

What is FL’s involvement?

Future learning is the course provider and will be your receiving organisation in Ireland for the purpose of the application and will be organising the training event.

Who is eligible to apply for funding?

Organisations across all sectors actively involved in delivering formal and non-formal education, training and youth work are able to apply for funding for their staff and learners and are accepted as such by their national agencies.

Which countries are eligible to participate in Erasmus+?

Full participation in the programme is open to the 27 EU Member States as well as five non-EU Member States (former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein, Turkey). Other countries can participate in the programme on a limited basis and may participate in certain actions or according to specific conditions.

What is the deadline for funding applications?

The deadline for applications for school staff mobility is at the beginning of February.

When will I find out if we got the funding?

Four months after the submission deadline the school will be notified of the decision and get a date for the signing of the grant agreement.

When would we receive the funding?

The school will receive 80% of the funding awarded in advance and 20% of the funding within 60 days of submitting the final report on completion of the project to the National Agency.

How can FL help with this process?

We are available to help with any questions you may have during the process and will help in any way we can with the application. Funding will be approved for your school by your national agency which means that, while we can provide support, we are not actually involved in making the application.
