Teacher Instructions:
• Go to www.Brainpop.com• Sign in edhpop• Password edhpop1• Go to Science• Go to “Matter and Chemistry”• Go to “Compounds and Mixtures”• Play video and have students take graded quiz as a
class, then go through powerpoint. Have students copy definitions of elements, compounds and mixtures, and have them turn in definitions with classification activity to their science teacher.

WHAT IS MATTER?
Anything that has mass and takes up space.
![Page 4: Teacher Instructions: Go to Sign in edhpop Password edhpop1 Go to Science Go to “Matter and Chemistry” Go to “Compounds and Mixtures”](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062517/56649f335503460f94c508da/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
STATES OF MATTER
• Solids- tightly packed molecules, definite shape, does not conform to shape of container.
• Liquids- “slippery” molecules, definite volume, conforms to shape of container.
• Gases- lots of space between molecules, takes up all the volume of a container.

ELEMENTS
• Found on the Periodic Table
• Cannot be separated into smaller pieces and still retain the characteristics of the element.

COMPOUNDS
• Made of 2 or more elements chemically combined together.
• Have a FORMULA!
![Page 7: Teacher Instructions: Go to Sign in edhpop Password edhpop1 Go to Science Go to “Matter and Chemistry” Go to “Compounds and Mixtures”](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062517/56649f335503460f94c508da/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
MIXTURES
• Two or more substances mixed together.
• NO chemical reaction has taken place!
• Can be separated by physical means.
![Page 8: Teacher Instructions: Go to Sign in edhpop Password edhpop1 Go to Science Go to “Matter and Chemistry” Go to “Compounds and Mixtures”](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062517/56649f335503460f94c508da/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
HOMOGENEOUS MIXTURE
• Uniform in appearance
• No visible “chunks”
• Metal mixtures are alloys.

HETEROGENEOUS MIXTURES
• Not uniform in appearance
• Has visible “chunks”
