Maya snapped on her helmet and kneepads. One good thing about moving to a new place was exploring the skate parks. Every city had them, and they were all different.
Maya was zipping around the park on her blades when she suddenly heard a chorus of voices behind her. She spun around to see a line of kids her age giggling and skating together. Maya longed for friends like that.
“Hey!” the girl in the purple helmet called out. “Are you new, and do you want to skate with us?”
Maya felt sunshine flow over her. “Yes, to both questions!” She smiled brightly.
“We all just moved here, too,” the boy in the yellow shirt said. “Our parents move all over for their jobs. Margie started this group last week. We call ourselves the Rolling Rangers.”
Maya laughed. “I sure do want to join!” she said. “So, let’s get rolling!”
