They started from the West Coast in the Hokianga to the East coast finishing at the Waitangi Treaty Grounds. This involved a mixture of hiking while carrying heavy equipment, mountain biking and kayaking over 5 days and roughly over 100km. All the students that attended completed the whole race as a team. They were tested physically and mentally and all managed to overcome their own individual battles to each successfully finish the challenge. The end of year the Services Academy Marchout Parade was held at St Pauls, Auckland. Tikipunga High School was represented extremely well by the SAS and were among 11 other Service Academy Schools. Xaviana Riwhi led the platoon around the parade ground and accolades went to Blake Morris (Most Improved) and Zion Clement (Top Student). Well done to SAS 2020 it was a mixed bag of tricks thrown at us this year but we got there. Look forward to bigger and better things for next year. Staff is proud. Senior Praisegiving was without a doubt, the terms highlight. What a wonderful celebration of student success. Thank you to all who attended our whakanui. I would like to acknowledge and thank our student leadership team this year. They have done a wonderful job supporting our kura Kaupapa. The incoming students for 2020 have big shoes to fill and I am sure they will rise to the challenge. At Praisegiving we named our two head students and two deputy head students. In term one next year we will strengthen this team. The majority of our senior students have now finished their courses, however a number of learning opportunities are still available for students who are completing their courses. Please encourage our tamariki to take advantage of these; there is still time left in this academic year, let's make the most of it. As the seniors year draws to a close the opportunities for our year 7-10 increase. This is the time for junior students to show their maturity and leadership. In the upcoming weeks there will be a range of education outside of the classroom opportunities; these range from day trips to camps. It is our expectation that all students will partake in these incredibly valuable, engaging and enjoyable learning experiences. Tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou, mauri ora ki a tātou katoa. SENIOR PRAISEGIVING

Te Putahitanga were delighted to be part of Armistise Day which was held at the Laurie Hall Park on the 11th day, 11th hour and 11th month.

Our last round of Gateway work experience students started at Countdown last week. Milly, Honey, Jahnaia, Punatahi, Vision & Dale had their first day on the job and really enjoyed it. They did online shopping, produce department, the deli and re-stocking shelves.

STUDENTS ENJOYING WORK EXPERIENCE AT COUNTDOWN TIKIPUNGA

There were cadets standing on each post representing the Airforce, Army and Navy. There were also the veterans who had joined. The Mayor of Whangarei was also there and we got to have a group photo with her. Bryon and Janelle represented Te Putahitanga and laid down a wreath in honours of those who fought for us.

The Countdown SEEDS programme is a fantastic initiative, students will be working towards 21 level 2 credits while on this placement and there could even be an opportunity to apply for part-time work at the end. Well done team!

YEAR 10 STUDENTS

VISIT WAITANGI

On Tuesday the Year 9 boys and Wednesday the Year 9 girls visited the Ruapekapeka battle site. Under the guidance of Mr Mills, Vinny, Matua Ropata, Mrs Martin, Ms Rivett and Izaak students bonded well and learnt a lot from the visit. We then headed to Waitangi Golf course for views and a talk overlooking the places of note in the Bay. We cruised back to Paihia for morning tea, before heading to the car ferry to Russell. We went up to the flag pole for a reccy, then into town to visit the Church and have lunch and explore the town. Our students represented our school values well and were respectful of the historical places we visited. Many thanks to Vinny for his wonderful way of being around the kids and to the other staff roped in to help out.

On Saturday, 14th November the Automotive Trades students visited the Big Boys Toys Event at the ASB Showgrounds in Auckland. This years show had three halls packed with the latest and greatest of the Automotive industry and beyond.

We were very lucky to witness the reveal of New Zealand drifting legend’s Mad Mike Whiddett’s latest project the Rotang Drift Mazda MX5, designed in collaboration with his 12 year old son Lincoln.

The Action Arena Show was a highlight, with some of the finest extreme athletes in the world showcasing their skills in BMX, FMX and Stunt Motorcycles. A great time was had by all, roll on next year!
