on the occasion. In his
address, the DHS
commended the efforts of
AYUSH Wing for
organizing various
activities for the benefit of
people. He emphasized the
role of Ayurveda in
preventive, promotive and
curative health care and
appealed the people to
adopt the principles of
Ayurveda in day to day life.
At the outset, Dr. Kalyan
P. Kadbhane, D.D.
(AYUSH) welcomed the
gathering. While speaking,
he explained the
significance of the day and
presented glimpses of the
various activities carried
out by AYUSH Wing
across the Islands. Dr.
Rekha, Specialist
(Panchkarma) and Nodal
Officer (NAD), sensitized
the gathering about

crew of Strategic Strike
Nuclear Submarine (SSBN)
INS Arihant. The submarine
recently returned from its
first deterrence patrol,
completing the
establishment of the
country's survivable nuclear
triad. Stressing the
significance of the
successful deployment of
INS Arihant for the
completion of India's nuclear
triad, the Prime Minister
congratulated the crew and
all involved in the
achievement which puts
India among a handful of
countries having the
capability to design,
construct and operate
SSBNs.
Noting the indigenous
development of the SSBN
and its operationalisation
attest to the country's
technological prowess and
the synergy and
coordination among all
concerned, the Prime
Minister thanked them for
their dedication and
commitment in realising this
pioneering accomplishment
enhancing immensely the
country's security.
The Prime Minister
commended the courage
and commitment of India's
brave soldiers and the talent

boat of sizes ranging
between 25 feet to 45 feet
for Motorized boats & 36
feet to 48 feet for
Mechanized boats. The
actual quantum of subsidy
for different sizes of boats
shall be as per revised
pattern of subsidy &
guidelines which is under
finalization by the
Department. Applications
are invited from bonafide
fisher, local unemployed
youth, Schedule Tribe,
local entrepreneurs, fisher/
tribal Cooperative Society
from Municipal and tribal
areas of A&N Islands for
extending subsidy under
the programme during
2018-19.

It is considered to be an auspicious day to seek blessings from the wealth goddess
Lakshmi, for the prosperous and wealthy year. On this day, purchase of gold, silver,
automobiles and utensils are done by people.
The markets in the city and elsewhere are abuzz with activities. People were seen
thronging the city shops for purchasing utensils, gold items, besides lights and
sweets, soaking themselves in the Deepawali festivities. There was a heavy rush of
vehicles proceeding to market places in the town and Traffic Police had a tough
time in regulating the traffic at vantage points.
Meanwhile the 'Patakha Bazar' at ITF Ground is also attracting a good number
of visitors. People, especially children were seen purchasing fire crackers of their
choices. Rush was also seen at the stalls outside the ITF Ground where earthen lamps
and decorating lights are being sold for decoration of houses during Diwal festival.
