its inauguration by the
Secretary Education, Smti.
Tanvi Garg in the
Auditorium of Govt. Girls.
Sr. Sec. School here this
‘Gyanodaya’-2016-17 gets underway
Models of various disciplines
on display; exhibition open till Jan 19
evening.
Addressing the
gathering, the chief guest
said 'Gyanodaya' is a
platform for students to
interact, learn and share
knowledge. She said,
Science can be applied in
real life, and lauded the
beautiful models of
various disciplines
displayed by the students.
She also urged everyone
to visit the exhibition and
encourage the students.
The chief guest also went
round the exhibition hall,
evinced keen interests in
the models on display
there and interacted with
the students. The chief
guest and other dignitaries
also released the Souvenir
of Gyanodaya-2016 on the
occasion.
As many as 159 models
are on display at the
exhibition. The exhibition
will remain open from 10am
to 5pm upto Jan 19, 2017.
Altogether 7 educational
zones of A&N Islands are
participating in the

Sidhartha Kanjilal has
convicted the accused
Keshav Rao on Jan 16, 2017
for assaulting a pregnant
woman following which she
succumbed to the injuries and
died. The accused Keshav
Rao was produced from
judicial custody on Jan 17 and
after hearing him and his
counsel, the Ld. Court of
Sessions Judge has imposed
punishment upon the accused
Keshav to suffer rigorous
imprisonment for 5 years and
to pay fine of Rs.5000/- and in
default of payment of fine, he

PTM, TM Commander Coast
Guard Region A&N laid the
foundation stone for
construction of Coast Guard
jetty at Diglipur and
Mayabunder. The Coast
Guard jetty at these locations
will be constructed as
extension to the existing
PMB jetty with auxiliary and
berthing facilities. The
projects are being executed
by Andaman Lakshadweep
Coast Guard Jetty at Diglipur and
Mayabunder; foundation stones laid
Harbour Works in
association with Military
Engineer Services and will be
completed over the next two
years. The construction of
the jetties will provide
impetus to sea surveillance
capacity of Coast Guard in
the Northern Group of
Islands.
The Commander Coast
Guard, while addressing the
senior officials during the
function, emphasised upon
infrastructure development
in these Islands in
conformity with the
expansion plans envisaged
in the Coast Guard
Development Plan 2017-22.
He acknowledged the
continued co-operation and
support of A&N
Administration in enabling
these facilities to enhance
Coast Guard operations
capacity. The projects for
Coast Guard jetty at Hutbay
and Campbell Bay are also
being progressed and
Commander Coast Guard
stressed upon monitoring
the projects for timely
completion for induction and
basing of more Coast Guard
assets in A&N Region. The
functions were attended by
officials from ALHW, MES,
respective stakeholders and
local dignitaries, a
communication from PRO
Coast Guard said.

Chairperson & Members of
NHRC to arrive on visit to Isles todayPort Blair, Jan 17
The Chairperson, Members and officials of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) will
be on a three-day visit to the Islands from Jan 18 to 20, 2017. During their stay here, the Members
of the Commission will hold a programme on 'Human Rights', at 10 am in the auditorium of
Tagore Govt. College of Education followed by an open hearing/camp sitting at the same venue
on Jan 19, 2017. The Commission will also hold meeting with local NGOs and Senior Officers
of A&N Administration in the conference hall of Secretariat in the afternoon of Jan 19, followed
by media briefing.
The Members of the Commission will also be visiting Car Nicobar on Jan 20 and hold meeting
with officials and representatives of Tribal Council. On completion of the visit, they will leave
for mainland on Jan 21, 2017, an official release said.

liquor and other
contraband articles and in
its pursuance, a Police
team of PS Chatham
conducted a raid at Haddo
Wharf on Jan 15, wherein
passengers had arrived
from Chennai in M.V.
Harshwardhana ship.
During the checking, 26
kgs of tobacco products
were recovered from a
Recovery of banned tobacco
articles by South Andaman Policeperson namely V.
Vairamanickam, 61, R/o
Bhatu Basti. Later, the
recovered articles and the
person were handed over

Gujrat, Jan 17 India has started building theworld`s biggest cricket stadiumthat will accommodate 110,000spectators and cost around$100 million.Since the capacity of Kolkata`sEden Gardens was reduced aspart of a major rebuildingproject, Melbourne CricketGround has held the title of thesport`s largest stadium withseating for around 100,000.But speaking at a ground-breaking ceremony onMonday in India`s westernGujarat state, officials said anew stadium would be able to
welcome 110,000 people.Gujarat Cricket Association vicepresident Parimal Nathwani putthe overall cost of the project inthe city of Ahmedabad at sevenbillion rupees, saying thevenue would house otherfacilities."The stadium will have 76corporate boxes, four dressingrooms, a clubhouse and anOlympic-size swimming pool,"Nathwani was quoted assaying.The complex, to be built overthe next two years, will alsohave three practice groundsand an indoor cricket academy.
