By: Makenna Gillick

On Thursday, October 20th, the first ever Steelesview

Girls Softball Team played in an all-day tournament, here

at Steelesview. Even though it was a cold and rainy day,

we were still able to have fun. We played four games, and

we won all four of them! Therefore, we went to the

Conference Finals on Monday, October 24th. We played

one game. Sadly, we did not win that game, but we still

got a new banner for the whole school!

It was a great experience to be on a

team with girls who were

supportive, energetic, and a lot of

fun! I would like to thank our

coaches, Ms. Jhung and Mr.

Doucette, for helping the team,

being supportive, and being fun!

School Improvements Over the past year, the school council has been very supporting the revitalization of our library/learning commons. I am very pleased to say the project is now completed! Thank to our parent support, we have a new computer lab which has 5 pods, each with 6 computers, for a total of 30 computers. We have also received our new book shelves, specialty seating, library check out desk and table. The children are very happy with the changes and are already commenting on the new look and feel. The last part of our upgrading will be to have the library painted, which we are asking to have completed this year. Below are some pictures. If you haven’t already, come by and have a look.

Kindergarten Playground funding and development

As part of the roll out of the Full-Day Kindergarten program, each school was provided with a designated fenced area for the students to play. Over the past 2 years, the school council has been saving funds to support new equipment for this area (approximately $18,000.00) I am also pleased to announce that Steelesview P.S. will receive an additional $40,000.00 from TDSB to support the development of the playground. In the next few months, we will be meeting with the design architect who will help us plan the space to make it challenging and engaging for all of our youngest students. We hope the construction can take place in the summer so we can have it ready for Fall, 2017. Stay tuned for more information.

Staying prepared for

our changing weather

Each year when we change our clocks from Daylight Savings Time back to Eastern Standard Time, it reminds us that we are soon preparing for Winter. Children often leave the house without checking the weather. Here are some helpful tips to make sure your child is dressed for the weather; Dress in layers – dress for cold weather. Children can

always take off a layer if they are too warm. Bring/wear a hat and gloves – waterproof gloves Extra clothing in your child’s school bag – keep an extra

pair of socks and gloves in your child’s backpack as gloves and socks get wet easily.

Thank you for your support

Hi!!! I’m Lumiere the turkey! I suggest you eat pizza instead of me this year!!! Remember the time you forgot to pick the feathers out? Our turkey feathers ruined your whole Thanksgiving!!!

Lumiere Gr. 4

Oh No! The people are going to eat me for thanksgiving. I don’t want them to eat me. Hey people, eat vegetarian pizza instead of me. Why? Said the people. Vegetarian pizza is much healthier than me.

Harrison Gr. 3

Hi, I’m Lianne the turkey and I’m writing to you because I have a bunch of reasons why you should eat pie for Thanksgiving not me. My family votes ``PIE FOR THANKSGIVING NOT TURKEY!!`` Each Thanksgiving my family shrinks because you eat them. Have a heart and use it to stop turkeys from being on the menu for at least one Thanksgiving. Just one!! Is one too much to ask for? Save the turkeys!!!

Lianne Gr. 4

Hello citizens of Canada! I am here to save all the turkeys in the world. You know when you eat a turkey you kill them, which means you endanger the species. So you should eat ice cream instead. It’s sweet and creamy plus you don’t hurt anything. Turkeys are too feathery, playful and cute to eat.

Jacob Gr. 3

Hi my name is M. George the turkey. I’m here to tell you guys to not eat anymore turkeys. You shouldn’t eat turkeys because hamburgers are much more delicious. Besides it's Thanksgiving you should be thankful for turkeys. If you eat a hamburger you will fall in love with it.

Mohammed Gr. 4

Hi people of the human world. I am B.Bob Turkey here to change the WORLD. Listen to this (drumroll please) eat pizza for Thanksgiving! I know it sounds crazy but it is cool. Pizza is delish. You do not want to know where we have been. Do you not get tired every time you eat turkey? Eat pizza for thanksgiving.

Bodhi Gr.3

Hi ! I am Nia. Do you know how many people eat turkey for Thanksgiving? A lot! I think this Thanksgiving you should eat lasagne because it is way healthier than turkey! I also think you should eat lasagne because you should be thankful for the animals. Also because lasagne is way more delicious than turkey.
