There are two accessible entrances to the Library.1. East Entrance: There is a ground-level entrance to the Library

through a plaza on the East side between the Library and Rees-Jones Hall. The north side of the plaza is at sidewalk level. For access from the south side of the plaza, a ramp is available at the southeast corner. The doors on the plaza open into the ground floor of the Library during all the hours that the Library is open, although TCU ID card access is required after non-TCU visitor hours are over.

2. Northwest Entrance: An entrance with a ramp is on the northwest corner of the library near University Drive. A button near the accessible entrance activates a buzzer at the Library Services desk. Desk staff then activate the automated door mechanism to allow entrance.

July 2016 TCU Retirees’ Newsletter 3

Terri Lee Mabe Jan. 30, 1959 - May 27, 2016

The native of Lincoln, Neb. worked in the Burleson Independent School District before coming to TCU in 1999. Mabe was the ad-ministrator of TCU’s Geology and Environmental Science Department until her death.

James “Jim” Henley 1942 - 2016

Jim Henley passed away sud-denly on May 15 from an acute and fast-acting form of leukemia.

Jim joined the Sociology Depart-ment of TCU in 1970. He taught everything from Sociology of Organizations to Research Methods, but he most loved teaching Social Problems and his particular favor-ite, Medical Sociology. In 1979, Jim became department chair and served eight years in that capacity. In 1987 he became Associate Dean of AddRan College of Arts and Sci-ences, holding that position until his retirement in 2002. He continued teaching those two favorite courses during his tenure as “Jimmy Dean.” More than his service to TCU, Jim brought his sense of humor to work

with him. The infamous lunch table in the old faculty center was a source of great merriment shared by like-minded professors, and jokes from that memorable time are still being shared.

Jim met his wife, Caralee Woods, during her visits to TCU as a text-book rep. They married in 1977. Jim and Caralee shared a lot of adven-tures, but their biggest adventure was buying land in southwest Utah and, mostly by themselves, building a strawbale home. Jim didn’t quite get to finish it—he was convinced they would be in their home by Christmas after working on it for eleven years—but Caralee is com-mitted to completing what is surely Jim’s masterpiece.

Jim’s big heart, sense of humor, love for animals, and appreciation for fine craftsmanship have been constants in his life. It was impor-tant to him to leave the world a bet-ter place, and it’s safe to say he did. A celebration of life will be held at a later date when the strawbale house is completed. If anyone would like to share memories of Jim to read at that celebration, please send them to [email protected].

Peter Raymond Locke 1951 - June 10, 2016

Locke came to TCU in 2006 with a doctorate in economics from Texas A&M at College Station and bachelor’s degrees in economics and math from the University of Oregon at Eugene.

Prior to his coming to TCU

where he was a professor in finance in the M.J. Neeley School of Busi-ness until his death, Locke was a professor in the School of Business at George Washington University for six years and a visiting professor there since 1999. From 1991 until 2000, he was an adjunct professor at the Robert Smith School of Busi-ness at the University of Maryland. From 1989 until 1999, Lock was a financial economist for the Com-modity Futures Trading Commis-sion. He also was a visiting assis-tant professor at Tulane University from 1987 until 1989.

The author and/or co-author of a number of scholarly publications and a referee and reviewer for many publications . He also had testified as an expert witness in a number of different courts.

At TCU he was the Neeley School of Business’s Undergraduate Teacher of the Year in 2007-8. His scholastic honors include member-ship in Phi Beta Kappa.
