From the Principal’s Desk… Another school year is off to a great start as we welcomed many new families and students to TCS this year! I am thrilled to say we are currently at 91 students and 54 families! Both of these numbers are the highest they have been in the past 10 – 15 years. We are also excited to have 22 kindergartens! We give God the praise and thank him for his many blessings. Due to the increased enrollment, here are some of the exciting changes at the school this year:

1. 100% double grade

This year’s theme verse is found in 1 Thessalonians 5 :16-18, “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” Please remember to keep the school in your prayers, we know that God has great things in store for us here at TCS this year. The Cost of Freedom

They fought for what was right, While sleeping in a dark trench all

night. Infection, starvation, and frozen

feet, Were some of the things they had

to defeat.

Letters are sent to their loved ones,

Trying to silence the sound of guns.

Just like us they have fears, I can’t even imagine what they

have seen all these years.

Far away from their family and friends,

Hoping the war will soon end. Tents set up and guns are loaded, The war has started and bombs

have exploded.

Some were wounded during the war,

So they were sent home to be cared for.

When they return they aren’t the same.

Many return with PTSD or things I can’t even name.

The soldiers inspire all generations, For the freedom they gave to our

nation. In November we remember those

who are deceased, Thanking them for bringing us

peace.

You are remembered, Along with everything

you’ve done, The courage you’ve had. The battles you’ve won.

You see the world, As tears fill up your eyes, You can’t stand thinking

about, All of those who died,

You quietly say a prayer, One you say all the time,

These thoughts won’t leave your head,

This is only one mountain to climb,

You remember everyone you lost,

And all of the gruesome attacks,

You remember how much you did,

You did your best and fought back

To all the brave warriors, We are proud of you,

The amount of times you risked your lives,

We are inspired too.

Ella placed 2nd in the Legion Poster & Literacy Competition for Owen Sound.

This fall the grade 1/2 class began the year exploring our neighbourhood and

discovering who we call neighbours. We quickly identified the seniors who

live at Kelso Pines as our neighbours and each month we are

seeking to answer the question, “How can we love our neighbours?”

with the seniors in mind. We have

visited our senior buddies twice thus far

and are enjoying getting to know them

and sharing drawings, books and treats that we made with love for

them. We are looking forward to the ways we will continue to build

relationships and show love to our senior buddies throughout the year.

Teacher Spotlight Mrs. Bittel grew up in Newcastle, Ontario. After high school

she went on to Spring Arbor University in Spring Arbor, Michigan. Mrs. Bittel has always loved working with kids

and loves watching a child “get it”. It could be learning to read, grasp a concept, draw closer to the Lord or gain

confidence in an area of weakness. “One of the best things about being a Christian teacher is developing a

relationship with your students and being able to pray with them. It could be as simple as “my toe hurts” or

something more serious.”

Mr. & Mrs. Bittel have 3 kids. Sarah who is in her 4th year at Redeemer University, Noah who is in his 3rd year at Brock University and Jesse who is in grade 9 at St. Mary’s. They attend the Alliance Church in Owen Sound.

In her spare time Mrs. Bittel loves baking and reading. She also enjoys decorating her classroom and coming up with new

ideas. “My goal is to see my students grow both academically and spiritually. I love seeing light

bulb moments!” Mrs. Diane Bittel

Random Acts of Kindness Day Grey-Bruce

On Friday, November 2nd, TCS participated in Random Acts of Kindness Day Grey Bruce. We had a great time blessing our neighbours, community

helpers, and others in our community. What a great reminder that we can spread kindness each

and every day, we just have to look for those opportunities.

Grade 5/6 went downtown to bless some of the local businesses.

Kindergarten & Grade 3/4 visited our

school’s neighbours and left little notes and treats in their

mailboxes.

Grade 1/2 visiting the Police Station, Post Office, Firehall, Paramedics & Family Health Team.

The Grade 7 & 8 class travelled out to the Doctor’s Inn near Annan and helped with some yard work.

The Glimmering Red

Oh Flanders Fields, the glimmering red,

in remembrance to those who are dead.

The war raged on for months

and years, and what was shed more than

blood, was tears.

So please remember, it’s the least you can do,

for those who suffered much more than you.

Oh Canada, shining bright, we beat darkness with more

than light.

We Remember Lest we forget. On the 11th day of the 11th month of the 11th hour we stop to remember those who gave their lives, so we could have ours. Why should we respect them? Why should we honor them? Why should we celebrate? Because of what they gave for us. Think of what we would have if they didn’t fight for us. Would we be free? Would we be alive? Some people never returned to their loved ones. They wanted to do what was best for their country. Those who did return were scarred from the war, and would never be their self again. They hold the pictures of loved ones close to their heart, and the memories tucked away inside of them. Who or what do we remember on remembrance day? Put yourself in their boots, you just said goodbye to your family and friends for the last time. You make your way to a place you have never seen before. Dirty, muddy, smelly, are the first thoughts that come to your mind. You will be staying here for the next 6 months until you have completed your training, then out to the battlefield to fight for your country. It seems like years since you saw your wife, children, and dog. You left them to help them, to make Canada a safe place to call home for them. Many long months go by. Then out to the battle that may cause your life to turn a different way forever. The sights you see, death, violence, blood. You fear for your life as you dive into the trench, but safer than level ground. In constant fear of an enemy attack. The smell of rotting flesh, trench foot, and live rats scurrying along the brush. You light a match and pull out a photograph of your family. “How big Maddie must be already” you think to yourself. Laying your head down to rest could be the end of your life, but you can’t keep an eye open long enough to tell yourself not to. Woken up by a scare as you try to get away, but you can’t, you have a disease running up your left leg that stops you from running. You know your life will come to a cold twist in a matter of hours. Then out of nowhere a voice says “I can help”. You are safely transported to a hospital. Your leg must be amputated off, so the disease cannot spread any further into your body. After many painful days of recovery, the best news is told. The war is over! You can now go home! Poppies are now worn to respect and remember those who sacrificed their lives, so we could have ours. “In Flanders fields the poppies blow between the crosses, row on row, that mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly.” We can wear a poppy today to remember the soldiers who fought for our free land, Canada.
