Student Council Application Process Briefing
Aims of the Student Council
1. Represent the interests of the student body in student government affairs by acting as liaison between the student body and the college administration.
2. Empower the voices of students to ensure the student body feels free to express their ideas, opinions and suggestions.
3. Foster unity within the student body by encouraging the active involvement of students in their college lives.
4. Raise awareness and increase knowledge among the students, faculty, and the surrounding community about the services offered by the Student Council.
Functions of the Student Council
1. Collect, evaluate, and address student concerns and suggestions relating to their experience at Taylor’s College by holding formal discussions.
2. Communicate the opinions of the student body to the school administration on any subject that concerns students and on which the Council wishes to be consulted.
3. Support events, groups, and individuals who are benefiting the Taylor’s College community.
4. Keep students informed as to college initiatives as deemed necessary or appropriate by the college administration.
5. Accomplish initiatives pertaining to the goals of the college that are of the interest of the student body.
6. Organise annual events as trusted by the college administration and other activities that will benefit the student body.

• Elected by the new CAL Student Council Main Committee of 2013-2014.
• Recruitment date to be determined by the new CAL Student Council Main Committee.
• Unsuccessful campaigners for main committee positions are automatically eligible to be part of the sub-committee.

Preliminary Stage – Online Application
• www.tinyurl.com/app2013• Essay title: Write about yourself and
the reason(s) behind your interest in joining the Student Council. You should include and elaborate on important points which may help distinguish yourself as the best candidate for the position. (E.g. Qualities, experiences, honours and recognition etc.)
• Not more than 300 words.
• Select the office of your first choice and alternative choice.
• Available offices:1. President2. Secretary3. Treasurer4. Events Director5. Publicity DirectorNOTE: Applicants do NOT apply for the post of Vice President. Campaigners running for President with the second and third highest number of votes will be elected as Vice Presidents.
Deadline
• 21st January 2013, 4.00pm• Applicants advised to submit ASAP in
case of online traffic congestion.• Incomplete or late submissions will
NOT be entertained.
Second Stage - Interview• Shortlisted and unsuccessful
applicants will be notified via email on 25th January 2013 (Friday) by 8.00pm.
• Please provide an active email address.
• Check ‘Junk’ folder.• Interview period: 28th January
(Monday) – 1st February (Friday) 2013 • Shortlisted applicants who are unable
to attend the interview will NOT be considered.
• Bring a copy of your academic results for year 2012.
• Dress code: Appropriate attire according to TCSJ guidelines.
• NOTE: Applicants applying for the position of Publicity Director – Please prepare a poster for CALebration and bring it to the interview.
Final Stage - Campaigning• Shortlisted and unsuccessful
applicants will be notified via email on 6th February 2013 (Wednesday) by 8.00pm.
• Shortlisted applicants are required to attend the Campaign Briefing on 8th February 2013 (Friday).
• Campaigning period: 18th February (Monday) – 22nd February (Friday) 2013.
• Voting: 22nd February 2013 (Friday)
• Number of campaigners for each position:a. President: 6b. Secretary: 5c. Treasurer: 5d. Events Director: 3e. Publicity Director: 3
• All campaigners are required to attend CALebration.
• Election results announced during CALebration (22nd February 2013)
• Election results are final.
