Pratt & Whitney to supply engines for IndiGo aircraft ET Bureau, July 9, 2012 Engine maker Pratt & Whitney, a division of United Technologies Corp, and IndiGo signed an agreement for PurePower PW1100G-JM engines for the low-cost airline's 150 Airbus A320neo family aircraft. The agreement includes 300 firm PurePower PW1100G-JM engines with additional options and a long-term PureSolution(SM) maintenance agreement, according to a statement. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2015. "With oil prices on the rise, we are more satisfied than ever with our selection of the Pratt & Whitney PurePower engine," said IndiGo President Aditya Ghosh. "As a result of the lower engine operating cost, we are confident that we can maintain our competitive low fares while simultaneously offering our customers the most environmentally friendly way to fly." As part of this agreement, each IndiGo Airbus A320neo family aircraft will be powered by two PurePower PW1100G-JM engines with benefits including double-digit reductions in fuel burn, environmental emissions, engine noise and operating costs when compared with today's engines, said the statement. "This IndiGo order represents one of the largest engine orders in Pratt & Whitney's long history," said Todd Kallman, president, Commercial Engines & Global Services for Pratt & Whitney. "We are excited by the opportunity to power IndiGo's A320neo fleet and fly its customers with the dependable Pratt & Whitney PurePower engines." Pratt & Whitney has more than 2,500 PurePower engines on order, including options.

The PurePower engine uses an advanced gear system allowing the engine's fan to operate at a different speed than the low-pressure compressor and turbine. The combination of the gear system and an all-new advanced core delivers double-digit improvements in fuel efficiency and environmental emissions as well as a 50 percent reduction in noise. IndiGo is India's largest low-cost carrier, as well as the fastest growing carrier. It operates domestic services linking 32 destinations. Its main base is Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport. PureSolution service agreements provide flexible and comprehensive aftermarket solutions for PurePower engine family operators and ensure lowest cost of ownership throughout the engine life cycle. TCS Insights: Though the Indian civil aviation industry has hit turbulence, the industry is optimistic for clear weather in the long term. IndiGo’s Pratt & Whitney order to supply PurePower engines for its new aircrafts highlights the opportunities waiting to be explored for Canadian companies in the Indian aviation sector.

Right time for Western firms to tap Indian aeropsace market: Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu PTI, July 10, 2012 With spending on aerospace and defence growing in India, a major global consultancy firm has said this was the "right time" for European and American companies to invest in the market which is estimated to become the third largest after the US and China by 2020. "This is the right time to tap Indian aerospace market as India has ambitious plans to enhance its capabilities with

procurement and support from overseas companies," Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India Director Nidhi Goyal said. Such a move "may help (global aerospace and defence) industry to boost their revenues and also plan to consolidate later amidst low cost advantage in India," she said. "India has a major procurement program due to increasing requirement in both aerospace and defence, which is not only attractive for Indian industry but also for companies in Europe, USA and other regions," Goyal said. Her comments came in the wake of a Deloitte report on the performance of the global aerospace and defence industry which suggested "a continued uncertain defence outlook" that was likely to impact its overall financial performance in 2012. The report, however, said that defence spending was "increasing in geographies such as India, China, Japan, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Brazil as a result of increases in wealth and in light of growing national security concerns." It also indicated that defence revenues were likely to be impacted by decreased defence budgets mainly in the West, competing domestic priorities, weaker than expected economic performance in the western world and the drawdown of forces in Iraq and Afghanistan. TCS Insights: Deloitte’s report underscores the importance of India for global aerospace and defence companies. The Indian government’s announcement of procurement programs in aviation and defense sectors and the resulting offsets provides an opportunity for Canadian companies to look at India not only for the domestic market but also for addressing global markets by setting up R&D centers and developing new technologies and products. Several leading international players such as GE, Airbus, Rolls Royce, Boeing etc., have already set up R&D Centers in India.

Jet Airways signs agreement with GE on aircraft engine repair PTI, July 9, 2012 Jet Airways has signed a $ 150 million agreement with major engine-maker GE Aviation to cover maintenance, repair and overhaul for new engines to be fitted in nine Airbus A-330 aircraft which it would start inducting later this year. The 10-year 'OnPointSM solution agreement' would cover the new CF6-80E engines that would power the nine A-

330s, the airline said in a statement today, adding that the agreement was valued at $ 150 million. The private carrier already has a similar agreement to maintain, repair and overhaul same engines fitted in ten A 330-200 planes Jet already operates, it said. "GE's OnPoint solution agreement is a comprehensive engine maintenance solution that maintains our engines to ensure the superior operational reliability for which Jet Airways is highly regarded," Jet CEO Nikos Kardassis was quoted as saying. GE Vice President (South Asia) Nalin Jain said his company was "honoured by the continuing faith reposed in us by Jet Airways in selecting GE as the engine of choice for their Airbus A330 aircraft." Jet Airways and its low cost brand, JetKonnect, operate a modern jet fleet of GE90-powered Boeing 777-300ER, CFM56- powered Boeing 737 Next Generation and CF6-powered Airbus A330. TCS Insights: Providing comprehensive MRO services to Indian airlines will help secure orders for critical equipments of aircrafts. The Indian MRO industry is still at its nascent stage and many global players are in the process of setting up MRO facilities to meet the service needs of Indian airlines. “MRO India 2012” (www.mroindia.com) – The 2

Religare group's Air Mantra to start regional flights PTI, July 16, 2012 Religare Group's scheduled regional airline Air Mantra today said it will start passenger services from July 23, beginning with daily flights between Amritsar and Chandigarh in the northern sector. Part of Religare Voyages Ltd, which currently runs chartered services, Air Mantra plans to further expand its network to connect various smaller cities, including Jammu and Dharamshala very shortly. and comfortable flight," Religare group CEO and MD Sanjay Godhwani said in a statement. Mantra currently has two exclusive 17-seater Beechcraft 1900D aircrafts, which have been personalised to make every seat window-cum-aisle seat. "India, a country with 28 diverse states, hundreds of cities and more than a billion people, has limited airlines serving smaller cities. Mantra aims to put those untapped cities on a map, boost air travel and connectivity by inter- connecting cities out of the radar of most airlines," the company said. "With further expansion on the cards the plan foresees Jammu and Dharamshala entering its fold shortly," it added.

Religare Voyages was set up about five years ago with the launch of air charter services and it has a fleet of 12 aircraft, ranging from the 5-seater turboprops to 17 seater corporate luxury jets. TCS Insights: As the metro routes become saturated and new airports come up in important towns, airlines are deploying smaller planes to connect such towns with main cities. It is generally accepted by all the stakeholders that growth in domestic air traffic will come from regional routes and hence new airlines are addressing this market. This opens market potential for Canadian small aircraft manufacturers for flying short distances.
