Thornton Cleveleys Seniors 1st team have been in fine goal scoring form hitting 23 goals in their

last 3 outings, conceding only two along the way. The home league fixture on 5th September saw

Thornton Cleveleys put double figures past West Lancs Division 1 side Croshills. They were the

unlucky recipients of a 13-0 mauling as Craig Franklyn and Paul Bailey both netted hat-tricks -

only to be outdone on the day by Chris Matthews with a four goal haul .Anthony Warwick (2)

and Daz Hall(1) also found themselves on the score sheet in the rout.

Buoyed by this victory Thornton found themselves back amongst the goals one week later at

New Bourne Park as they put 8 past Bolton County without reply in the Lancashire Amateur

Shield. Brett Dawson, Craig

Franklyn and Anthony War-

wick bagged braces with Mark

Davis and Daz Hall grabbing a

goal apiece

A disappointing 2-2 draw away to

Hesketh Bank brought them back

down to earth on September 19th

in a game that on paper was there

for the taking. On the day however

perhaps it was more a point gained

rather than two lost as the per-

The result left them lying in fourth place with 5 games played and a very healthy goal difference; A posi-

tion that pleased manager Mendonca. “The season has gone pretty much according to plan so far

albeit I was disappointed with the draw against Hesketh Bank. We can take heart however with

the amount of goals we have scored so early on in the season as well as the fact we have con-

ceded very few at the other end. ”Another clean sheet on September 27th, a 0-2 win away to Mill

Hill St Peters, took the Reds up to third place in the table. Cup football followed and a 4-3 win

in the Lancs Amateur Shield v Leigh Athletic and another creditable 3-1 win on the 10th of Oc-

tober against Hawcoat Park .

With the distraction of cup games looming it was good to get 3 points in the bag against a team

one place below us in the league. From start to finish they dominated the game, without really

getting into top gear! Credit goes to the back four who looked solid again, the midfield won

their individual battles and the forwards who always look dangerous when going forward. A

well deserved Man of the Match award goes to Craig Frankland whose work rate and overall

contribution in this game and since preseason is a great example to any young or old player

wishing to break into this team!

24th October sees the return of Thornton Cleveleys Seniors 1st team to New Bourne Park with

home league gamev Monton Amateur in the Shield and then 14th Nov in the Lancs Cup against

Burnley United. Commenting on the games already played at home Mendonca is keen to point

out that whilst he is happy with the home support his team has enjoyed so far this season he is

still hoping to attract even more fans to watch the quality football that is on offer. “Admission to

all Seniors games is free of charge and you can still keep up-to-date with scores from around the

country with all televised Premiership and Championship games being screened live in TC’s

2010 seasons touring team. Whilst the date for the tour has been agreed (29/05/10 ~

05/06/10), an u Under 14’s Touring team updates

2010 sees Colin Evans and Tim Forshaw’s Under 14s chosen as the squad to rep-

resent TCFC as this seasons touring team. Whilst the date for the tour has been

agreed (29/05/10 ~ 05/06/10), an exact venue has not been finalized. Italy, Spain

and France have been suggested by many and hopefully a decision will be made

shortly.

Whatever is decided, one thing is already certain, as previous touring sides have

found out, is the sheer hard work required to raise sufficient funds to make it all

happen. The fund raising is the responsibility of the team in question with players,

parents and coaches eager to come up with enough ideas to get the funds flowing.

With an estimated £ 10,000 required this will be no mean feat. Some of these

ideas are already taking place, with the monthly 100 club having been drawn

twice. Scott Rixon and Nick Benson were August and September’s lucky winners

of £100. Further events currently underway include the weekly Bonus Ball Syndi-

cate. Joan Aspindle can be contacted for those wishing to take part.

Other future events in coming months already have dates set or are just awaiting

final confirmation - a list of these can be found below :- Pub to pub bike ride date to be confirmed Race night @ Sandpiper Saturday 24th October Ladies Night @ the clubhouse 3rd November 7pm Christmas Ball, @ Singleton Lodge 28th November limited to 60 persons Bag packing @ Wilkinson's 3 dates during December Easter egg stall @ Easter Tournament

It is hoped that all of the fund raising events will be well attended, and not just by

those directly linked to the Under 14s.The organizing committee are more than

happy to welcome anyone on board who can offer help or suggestions that can

be put into practice to help the cause. This year’s fund raisers hope all involved at

all age groups within TCFC can contribute in one way or another as when it

comes to your own child’s touring year it becomes apparent as to what a tough job

it can be.

One of last years fund raisers commented.” Last season, our Under 14,s worked

long and hard to raise enough funds to go on tour to Holland and at times it felt

like the final figure would never be reached. But with everybody pulling in the

same direction it eventually became a reality. Everyone had such a fantastic time

and we even brought back the winners trophy. None of this could have happened

with out the generosity of many people and the hard work of relatively few but on

our return all concerned agreed it was a worthwhile effort.”

Thornton Cleveleys FC juniors section can feel justifiably proud as they have

had no less than 6 of their players selected to play for the Blackpool and Dis-

trict League Representative teams. Under 12’s Jack Smith ,Harry Roe ,Jacob

Wilson and Josh Mclardie made the final 17 after a series of intense trials

held over several weeks at Lytham Juniors FC .Whittled down from approxi-

mately 90 players from the majority of teams who play in the Blackpool and

District Leagues the boys competed in a variety of fitness and skills sessions

as well as training matches before the final decision was made . Harry Lee

and Alex Evans from the Under 14,s underwent similar trials and all at TCFC

wish them luck when the competitive games get underway in January. Under

12’s manager Shaun Rowley commented“ It is a great honour to represent the

league side and I am sure the boys selected will give it their all and do them-

selves and TCFC proud”.

Octobers ‘ FACES I PLACES’ sees Harry Wilson who plays

for the Under 10,s along with brother Jacob from the Under 12,s

on holiday with their dad David during a recent family holiday at

BEST START SICE 1984

Thornton Cleveleys Under 9,s have made the best start to a competitive debut season than any other team since 1984. Between the Reds and the Whites they have scored 35 goals and conceded only 11. The Whites have made a particularly strong start and find themselves top of the league going into Octobers fixtures and the Reds are holding their own in 6th place. Whilst Louis Talarczyk and Jamie Hargreaves are leading the way in the goal scoring stakes with 10 and 7 goals already, manager Kevin Hoggarth is pleased to see that the goals are coming from all areas of the pitch. “It is great to see that the efforts the players are putting in during our training sessions on Mondays are paying off. If they continue in the same way, they will no doubt see the benefits in the games.
