As an architectural designer with MBN Group Architects, I had the opportu-nity to work on and manage various design-build projects, which required constant coordination among consultants in order to produce superior qual-ity projects and meet strict deadlines. While with MBN Group, I worked on LEEDCertifiedprojectsfromthedesignstagesthroughtheprocessofseek-ingandobtainingLEEDCertification.Mydutiesasanarchitecturaldesign-er included Revit 3D modeling and drafting, AutoCAD drafting, producing construction documents, design coordination among consultants, prepar-ing proposals, coordinating and attending site visits, and interfacing with clients. I was also responsible for producing all client renderings. Due to my vital role in producing renderings, I continued to do freelance work for MBN Group Architects while pursuing my Master’s degree until December 2012.

My full-time internship with CTA Architects immersed me in the practice of architecture, giving me the opportunity to experience all facets of the pro-fession. My duties as an architectural intern included Revit 3D modeling and drafting, AutoCAD drafting, producing construction documents, attending site visits, and interfacing with clients. I had the opportunity to work on projects in the areas of residential design as well as education facilities.

The Integrated Hybrid makes a statement for hybrid housing of the twenty-first century on

the Oostelijke Handelskade’s last vacant site. My research into hybrid buildings revealed seven qualities of the genuine or “true” hybrid building, which formed an architectural model for the “true” hybrid building. The project endeavors to be dy-namic at all scales - from the interaction of public

functions and dwellings situated around a central atrium down to the details. The facade features operable perforated copper shutters, which create the possibility for a continually changing facade. Further, the dwelling design along with a structure design that features voided concrete slabs result in maximum flexibility to meet current as well as and future needs. All work is my own.

Green Acres 2.0 is an icon within the context of the Bospolder/Tussendijken neighborhood.

The project engages with the community through urban farming in rooftop greenhouses and a col-lective courtyard. In essence, the suburban gar-den complex has been brought to the city. The greenhouses present also serve as an integral el-ement in the project’s climate design. All of the

project’s dwellings are ventilated by a shaft that connects to the rooftop greenhouses; the shafts deliver fresh warm or cool air to the dwelling de-pending on the season. The project is wrapped in a smooth facade system in which glass and aluminum panels are interchangeable in order to achieve a continuity between the greenhouses and the aluminum facade. All work is my own.

Robin Hood GardensPoplar // East London, United Kingdom

Robin Hood Gardens is a residential project located in the Poplar neighborhood of East

London. The project was designed by Alison and Peter Smithson in the 1960’s and was completed in 1972. The iconic brutalist style project is com-prised of two towers of apartments with green space in between. The Smithsons envisioned the access galleries leading to the apartments as

vibrant “streets” in the sky that would serve as a backdrop for interaction among building resi-dents. The project drawings were analyzed with a focus on transitions from public to private spac-es. Further, the project was analyzed at multiple scales - from the urban scale down to the facade details in regard to transitions from public to pri-vate realms. All work is my own.

The TED-Centre is an intervention project in a former Geld- en Telefonbedrijf building in

the heart of Amsterdam. The former Geld- en Telegraafkantoor building was designed by Jo-seph Crouwel and was completed in 1927. The TED-Centre provides several types of spaces that serve as platforms for information exchange as well as space for temporary and permanent lodg-

ing. Site research called for the majority of the existing building to remain and for the interven-tion to highlight the strengths of the existing building. The transparent materialization of the intervention (achieved through channel glass) seeks to engage the urban context and make the active nature of the building interior visible to the surroundings. All work is my own.

Juxtaposition proposes a new facade for the existing Elektrotechniek, Wiskunde en Infor-

matica (EWI) building located on the TU Delft Campus. In short, the proposal aims to replace the existing mechanically ventilated double-skin facade with a naturally ventilated double-skin facade that is comprised of two facade modules (modules A & B). The naturally ventilated dou-

ble-skin facade will provide a more pleasant inte-rior climate and save energy. Beyond saving ener-gy, the proposed facade will bring visual interest to a landmark building on the TU Delft campus that is currently aesthetically unimaginative. The dynamic facade design is also versatile enough to be implemented on the north and south facades of the building. All work is my own.

GatherAmstel River // Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Competition Proposal[AC-CA] Amsterdam Iconic Pedestrian Bridge Spring 2012

Gather proposes a footbridge to link the east and west banks of the Amstel River in the heart of

Amsterdam. Gather envisions a footbridge that is not just a link but also functions as a destination complete with a cafe, meeting space, bike repair shop, administration space, and restrooms. The proposed footbridge will be situated directly in front of the iconic Hermitage Museum, thus the

bridge must also make a statement in the context. In regard to sustainability, the materialization of the bridge is transparent recycled plastic. The bridge is composed of several volumes that over-look the Amstel and the city; the volumes are ori-ented more broadly to the largest polluting sites in the Netherlands in order to further emphasize the need for sustainability. All work is my own.

Competition ProposalArchitecture for Humanity // Rebuild’s ProjectFIND Fall 2009 // Construction Ongoing

T

he School Garden Network is a winning pro-posal that envisions teaching elementary school

students the importance of healthy eating through design. The proposal consists of implementing a garden with fruits and vegetables at elementary schools across San Diego; essentially, the garden is envisaged as a classroom. The proposal calls for a kitchen to be located in each garden where

local chefs can teach the children how to cook the produce from their own school garden. The first school garden was completed in Fall 2010 at Washington Elementary School in San Diego; the project was nominated for an Orchid Award by the San Diego Architectural Foundation. Subsequent gardens are now being constructed at other ele-mentary schools in San Diego. All work is my own.
