Family & Singing Influences

Taylor Swift’s family is her dad, Scott Swift, her mom, Andrea Swift, and her younger brother, Austin Swift. She grew up on a Christmas Tree Farm. Her singing influences came from her grandma and LeAnn Rimes.

Awards

In fourth grade, she won a Nation Poetry Contest for her 3 page long poem ‘Monster In My Closet’. Her music video ‘Tim McGraw’, won her an award for Breakthrough video of the year at 2007 CMT music awards. In October 2007, she was given the Songwriter/Artist of the Year award, making her the youngest person to win it. She was nominated for a 2008 Grammy Award in the category Best New Artist, but she lost to Amy Winehouse.

Performances

Her first performance was when she was 11 years old. It was either at a 76ers game, or at the U.S. Open Tennis Tournament. I have gotten info from different places that say one or the other. I’m not really sure which one it is.

Childhood

When she was 10 she started singing at karaoke contests, festivals, and fairs. She also started writing songs. When she was 11 years old went to Nashville Tennessee to get a record deal by handing out a karaoke tape of her singing to every label on Music Row. When she was 12 years old she started playing a 12-string guitar and going to Nashville often to write songs with local songwriters. When Taylor was 14 her family moved to Nashville. When she was 15, she rejected a development deal with RCA Records because they would not let her record her own songs. Then, she performed at The Bluebird Cafe, catching the attention of Scott Borchetta who signed her to the newly-formed record label, Big Machine Records. She also became the youngest person ever hired by the Sony/ATV Tree publishing house.

Teen Years

On October 24, 2006, her first self-titled album came out. She was 16 years old. The album sold 39,000 copies in the first week. On September 21, 2007, she launched a program to protect children from online predators. She was also an endorser of Body By Milk, a campaign to get teens to drink low fat milk to maintain a healthy weight. In July of 2008, Taylor graduated from Aaron Academy, a Christian School which offers a home schooling program that Taylor used. On January30, 2009, L.e.i. clothing made a deal to make a line of clothes based of Taylor Swift’s style.

Performing

Taylor’s first single, Tim McGraw came out on radio in the summer of 2006. She sang the Star Spangled Banner at game three of the World Series on October 25, 2008. As of November 2008, Taylor has sold over 3 million copies of her albums, and has 7.5 million single downloads of her songs. Her latest album, Fearless, was released on November 11, 2008. Taylor has written or co-written all of her songs. She is now currently working on her new tour, Fearless.
