Summary Gathering Blue, by Lois Lowry, allows the reader to experience the pain of having a dead mother, but having an living father. In the beginning, Kira’s mother was dead for four days. So, Kira decided to leave the village after she found out that they are going to kick her out. Kira had to go the Council of Guardians. This meant that she would die or live. Jamison showed her the place where she would stay. She wants to go see Matt. Kira goes to see Matt aka Mattie, but she didn’t know that he was fighting. Kira finds out that Jamison is killing people. She also learns that there aren’t any beast. In the end, Kira finds out that her dad is really alive.

The setting is in a fantasy realistic village.

Kira is the protagonist in the story.

The antagonist are Kira and Jamison.
