    Every Tavrida breaker uses magnetic actuators designed and fabricated within our own facilities to drive the interrupter contacts. Working on the principle of permanent magnets, the actuators are mono-stable, needing less than 25 joules to close - and only 0.5 to open.

    In tandem with this novel approach to the operating mechanism, Tavrida has been equally focused on the vacuum interrupter.

    Through years of intensive research, Tavrida has developed a proprietary axial magnetic field technology to prevent contact damage. The field is optimized to create an even current density over the contact surfaces, leading to higher interrupting

    currents and unsurpassed open-close performance in a smaller package.

    The REC35_SMART7 has the ability to communicate with and enhance any utility requirements with its ultra compact, light-weight and intelligent features. It is controlled by the RC_7 Control Module.

    The REC35_SMART7 can be pole mounted in recloser, breaker or sectionalizer configurations. In the standard configuration,

    the design is built for the ANSI standard 170kV BIL. For areas prone to more severe lightning activity, optional extensions increase the BIL range to 200kV, while still retaining the full 1200A / 16kA rating.

    Each ISM comes complete with an electronic control module (CM_15_1) which provides trip and close functionality. The control modules work with multiple auxiliary voltages, from 85VDC to

    The CM_15_1 series eliminates the need for close and trip coils. Dry contacts are used instead, feeding into the close and trip inputs of the modules. Multiple contacts can be wired in parallel for extended remote operations.

    The control module continuously monitors the health of both the breaker and the control module itself, providing status indication through LEDs mounted on the front and through external signaling relays for remote indication. The close command will be blocked in the event of a failure or loss of communication with either the breaker position switch or the magnetic actuator, only allowing the breaker to be tripped until the fault is rectified. Anti-pumping duty is built into the control logic.

    370VDC and 85VAC 265VAC. The CM_15_1 utilizes a patented intelligent control principle that reduces closing times and simultaneously increases the mechanical life of the circuit breaker. The light-weight aluminum housing and compact design make them easy to fit into any low voltage switchgear compartment or directly onto retrofit draw-out trucks.

It is a multi-functional relay designed to measure incoming voltage and current signals and apply these to powerful protection features. Additional features are integrated battery charger, communication and SCADA functions, programmable digital inputs and outputs.

    RC_7The RC_7 is a compact Smart controller box that controls the OSM. It incorporates the CM_15_61506, control panel, driver, protection, communication, battery/battery charger, RTU and digital I/O boards in a 15" x 22" housing. The ultra low power consumption of 10W allows for back-up battery supply for of up to 48 hours.

    The RC_7 has been designed to work exclusively with the Rogowski-coil based OSM series of outdoor breakers. An advanced yet user-friendly control, the RC_7 is contained within an IP65 enclosure and capable of operation without heaters at -40oC. With space for modems and other accessories, the RC_7 supports DNP3 and MODBUS protocols through a built-in RTU and I/O module. And to keep personnel out of bad weather, the R C _ 7 can communicate with any Bluetooth enabled wireless device.

    The RC_7 provides full directional protection, over current, live line, ground fault, sensitive ground fault, voltage unbalance and current unbalance. It also provides zone sequence coordination and automatic backfeed restoration.

    To prevent spurious tripping, the unit has completely separate auto reclosing functions for overcurrent, sensitive ground fault, under voltage and under frequency.

    ISM: APPLICATIONS Tavrida ISMs are used in an array of applications - fixed and draw-out- - new or retrofit projects. By way of Tavridas unique design, the ISM has the capability of fitting into the most compact spaces.

    SWITCHGEAR SOLUTIONS For ANSI switchgear, the ISMD is the newest Tavrida entry into the 15kV market. Using the HD series ISM, this draw-out truck is suitable for use in 26 wide cubicles, up to 1200A and 750MVA. The ISMD combines the best features of North American designs without the conventional spring charged mechanisms.

    In the lineup pictured, using ISMD breakers in 26 wide, 1200A cells saves almost three feet compared with the traditional 36 offered in most ANSI applications. Cells can also be mixed, with the majority being 1200A breakers integrated with some 36 cells for 3000A tie breakers. The compact nature of the ISMD allows for two-high construction in both variants.

    RELIABILITY UPGRADE SOLUTIONS

    Tavrida has produced more than 80 variants of retrofit kits forolder IEC draw-out trucks with thousands of installations worldwide, and is currently working on kits for the ANSI market.

    Starting with the 50DHP250, ITE5HK250, and MA250C, these kits will be available to authorized circuit breaker service companies. The kits contain all the components required to rebuild the original breakers using Tavrida ISMs. While new interlocks and safety features are added, worn parts are discarded. All that is required is the original rolling frame and racking mechanism.

    OSM: OUTDOOR SWITCHING MODULES 15-27kV

    The Tavrida OSM utilizes the reliability of the ISM-LD series for outdoor circuit breaker applications. Weighing less than 154 lbs, the OSM is bundled with a number of features in a very compact enclosure. Non-saturable Rogowski coils in each pole guarantee high accuracy current measurement for all three phases and residual current. Voltage measurement is achieved through six capacitive voltage sensors built into the bushings. The bushings themselves are covered by silicone rubber insulators, with the entire package encased in an aluminum dead tank.

    Built for the worst conditions, the OSM has been tested at the KIPTS harsh environment test labs in South Africa, achieving the highest rating for both pollution and weather resistance. Worldwide installations have shown the OSM

    performing at the most extreme temperatures, from -60oC in Russia to +55oC in the Middle East.

    Capable of more than 30,000 close - open operations at full load or 200 short circuit events, the OSM has been proven in emerging markets where many installations trip daily due to aging infrastructure. Coupled with the advanced Tavrida RC05 recloser control, the OSM is the most reliable, maintenance free recloser on the market. Its even compatible with a Tavrida-modified SEL-651R OSM!

  • Tavrida Electric has more than 300,000 ISM and more than 18,000 OSM in service worldwide. Here are a few examples of North American installations:

    Downtown Vancouvers Tallest Tower Located right in the heart of Downtown Vancouver, the Atelier building contains 200 suites on 29 levels, will be the newest and most sophisticated and tallest building in Vancouver downtown. It was completed in October 2009. From an electrical design perspective, switchgear is placed in the basement of the building.Real estate in Vancouver, especially the downtown area is extremely expensive. As a result, the designated space for the switchgear in the basement of the building

    is almost impossible to fit in by most circuit breaker/switchgear manufacturers. In addition, the local utility requires dual radial incoming cells (= 4 load break switches in series on only 2 incoming feeders). Load break switches however are fairly large. Thus very compact circuit breakers are required The extremely compact design of Tavridas ISM15_LD al lows our switchgear OEM partner, Unit Electrical Engineering Ltd, to build compact switchgear for limited space.

  • Sunshine Coast The sunshine coast is a beautiful area near Vancouver. Utility power at Sunshine coast is fairly unstable due to remote area which requires backup power generator often. So electricity supply can come from both utility and a backup generator. The switchgear rating is 27kV/600A/12.5kA.

    A reactor must be grounded automatically when the source is switched from main generator to utility. ISM single pole was used as grounding switch for the reactor. A 3-pole ISM was used for the incoming busbar. This combination enables us to meet customer requirements.

    Oil and Gas Odessa, Texas 5,500 hp Compressor Five 15kV reclosers are installed near Odessa, Texas, to switch and protect 5,500 hp / 4160V compressors via 7.5 MVA transformers. These compressors are used to separate H2S gas and other components from the oil. The customer chose a Tavrida recloser because of its maintenance-free design and transformer inrush current filter which requires no settings. The light weight of the recloser makes mounting on the pole easy and cost-effective.

    An oil filled recloser was replaced by a 15kV OSM recloser based on vacuum circuit breakers on a 13.8kV line which is subjected higher lighting strikes. Tavrida's engineers

    assisted the line crew in commissioning and training.

    The light weight of the recloser and the user friendly RC05 control made commissioning straight forward.

    Temperatures can vary between -40C and +40C so reliability is of importance. Tavrida Electric has more than 18,000 reclosers in operation world-wide and they are well known for their

    reliability under extreme temperatures and environmental conditions.
