Starling Hunter © 2011 1 Taurus 25: A large well-kept public park The word large  descends from the Old French large  "broad, wide," from Latin largus which means "abundant, copious, plentiful, liberal.” 1  The word well  in the hyphenated compound “well - kept” means “in a good or proper manner.” 2 It descends from the Indo-European (IE) root  wel-2 which means “to wish, will.” 3 Its paronyms include benevolent  , gallop  , gallant  ,  malevolent  , volition  , voluntary  , voluptuous  , wallop  , weal  , wealth  ,  a n d two sense of  will   (1) the mental faculty by which one deliberately chooses or decides upon a course of action and (2) the auxiliary verb indicating simple futurity, the likelihood of uncertainty, willingness, intention, customary or habitual action, capacity or ability, and probability or expectation. 4  The word kept descends from the Old English cepan  which means “to observe, seize.” 5 The word  public  descends from the Latin populous  which means “people.” 6 According to the Online Etymology Dictionary  , the word park descends from the Old French parc and ultimately from West Germanic parruk meaning "enclosed tract of land." 7  THEMES:  The first theme concerns what is PUBLIC.
