First introduced during the Neolithic period around the fifth millennium BC.Began as carbon tattoos in the form of simple shapes such as dots and lines.Thought of as a form of healing.

Northern European tribes were often tattooed with dark blue copper designs.Japanese tattoos originated over 10,000 years ago and were commonly rubbing cuts, wounds with ashes and pricking skin.

Western tattoos originated in Polynesia.Tattoos were discovered by 18th century explorers. Explorers would get tattoos before travelling to the new western world.
