Born on(March 3, 1839 - May 19, 1904) was a pioneer in the field of modern industry. He was born in Navsari, Gujarat, India.He founded what would later become the Tata Group of companies. Jamsetji Tata is regarded as the "father of Indian industry".

HISTORY

Tata Iron and Steel Company was established byDorabjiTataon August 26, 1907, as part of his fatherJamsetji'sTata Group.By 1939 it operated the largest steel plant in the British Empire. The company launched a major modernization and expansion program in 1951. Later, the program was upgraded to 2 MTPA project. In 1990, it started expansion plan and established its subsidiary Tata Inc. in New York. The company changed its name from TISCO to Tata Steel in 2005.[14]

The Tata Iron and Steel Company (now Tata Steel) is established to set up India's first iron and steel plant in Jamshedpur. The plant started production in 1912.

Raw materials



With a century of experience in sourcing raw material through scientific research & development and sustainable mining, Tata Steels three main areas of raw material operations are iron-ore, chromite, limestone and coal. The Companys long-term strategy has been designed to have greater control over raw material resources and achieve its security across global operations.

Physical and chemical factors

The total geographical area of the district is 3533 Sq.Km. Which form about 2.03 % of the whole state. About 53% of the total area of the district is covered by residual mountains and hills consisting granite, gneiss, schist and basalt rocks. It is a part of Chhotanagpur plateau of igneous, sedimentary and metamorphosed rocks of Dharwarian period are found every where. The Dalma range is as main hill has been extended from west to East covered by dense forest. The Subernarekha river flows from west to south-east direction. All the tributaries of this area meet with the Subernarekha river. Generally the height of this area is 700 ft. to 3100 ft. above sea level. The district is rich in minerals and is found abundantly. Iron Ore, Copper, Uranium, Gold Kynite are the main minerals

TRANSPORTATION

Jamshedpur transportationfacilitates tourists and visitors to reach the city safely and conveniently. The intra city transportation system in Jamshedpur is quite efficient and adequate to enable the visitors and the residents of the city to move around conveniently.
Jamshedpur has a very good intra-city bus network. The main bus stand has buses that ply through the city and neighboring towns. Another favorite means of transportation are the minibuses. Cheap and efficient, a large number of people in Jamshedpur avail this transportation system. The auto-rickshaws are another popular vehicle to move around Jamshedpur. For short distance rides, one can avail the cheap cycle rickshaws.
Jamshedpur is excellently connected with major East Indian cities via road. The National Highway Number 33 passes by the city. Distance of Jamshedpur from some of these cities is:From Kolkata: 270 km by RoadFrom Ranchi: 130 km by RoadFrom Patna: 480 km by Road
