Welcome to Taste of Hudson!

Taste of Hudson has raised $267,125 for numerous char-itable causes since 2005. With Akron Children’s Hospital’s School Health Services as our primary beneficiary this year, Taste of Hudson, Inc. continues to help service the com-munity, its families and our children. We are grateful for the fantastic support of our sponsors and all participants in-cluding the dozens of restaurants, exhibitors, artists, 300 volunteers and more than 35 different service-in-kind or-ganizations which contribute to the success of The Taste.

Being one of Ohio’s largest free music festivals the Taste offers you the region’s finest bands from six stages and near-ly 60 performances. The popular Diamond Auto Lease Lux-ury Auto Show at The Taste features nearly 40 new mod-el vehicles and can be found on the beautiful bricked First Street in First & Main. Along with plenty of family and chil-dren’s activities located at Little Tikes Land on the Akron Children’s Hospital Activity Green and all of the inflatable fun and entertainment on the Primrose School Clocktow-er Green you’ll also find a wide variety of fun and excite-ment for people of all ages.

Make sure to check out the North End Wine & Beer Gar-den behind the Hudson Library & Historical Society. The

wine & beer garden feature wines from around the world and many crafted beers as well as great non-stop enter-tainment and fantastic appetizers from Hudson’s North End. Make plans to join the fun in the Wine & Beer Gar-den at a special concert featuring “Straight On, The Heart Tribute Band” and Monica Robins & The Whiskey Kings on Sunday evening, August 31st.

Also returning this year is the 2nd annual “Race to The Taste” a 5K and Family Fun Run on Monday morning at 8:30 with the start and finish on Village Way behind the li-brary. Details and registration information are noted in this festival guide.

On behalf of The Taste of Hudson Board of Directors and the organizing committee, I welcome you to share in the giving spirit this weekend and enjoy our historic communi-ty. Our benefiting charities appreciate your support as well!

Sincerely,

Andy MalitzExecutive Director

Help us celebrate our observance of La-bor Day. While we are all having fun, we will continue the Taste of Hudson’s successful charitable outreach. To date, over $267,000 has been raised and donated for impor-tant local / regional needs. We have every intention of replicating the past nine suc-cessful Taste of Hudson festivals by hav-

ing fun while doing good at the same time.I am sure you will enjoy the fantastic

food, the fabulous array of entertainment, and the friendliness that Hudson extends to all who visit. The Taste of Hudson is one of the largest free music festivals in the State of Ohio because of the many won-derful bands that will perform this week-end for your enjoyment. Please plan on ex-

periencing the ambiance of Hudson while attending in this special event in our his-toric downtown.

While here visit Hudson’s high quality shops and restaurants. I know you will be impressed with all there is to see and do here in Hudson this Labor Day weekend.

Welcome to Hudson…enjoy yourself and have fun!

Dear VisitorsAkron Children’s Hospital is

pleased to continue our spon-sorship of the Taste of Hud-

son in its 10th anniversary year. We join with the festival organizers to cel-ebrate this community and thank the volunteers, businesses and artists who make this event possible.

As the largest pediatric healthcare pro-

vider in northern Ohio, we are committed to

bringing expert pediatric care close to home. We specialize in one thing – kids – and we are privileged to care for the infants, children and teens who call Hudson home.

Our Akron Children’s Hospital Pediatrics

office in Hudson provides pediatric primary care. For emergency and specialty care, our Children’s at Hudson facility has a pediatric emergency department, radiology, laborato-ry and rehabilitation services, plus pediatric specialties including allergy/immunology, ear, nose and throat, neurology, orthopedics, plas-tic and reconstructive surgery, pulmonology and sports medicine. Our providers care for students in the Hudson school district, and

we provide medical and athletic training ser-vices for Hudson’s middle school and high school athletic programs.

We are delighted that proceeds from the

festival will benefit our School Health Ser-vices program, which provided nearly 374,000 clinic visits for students last year, and we’re pleased that School Health Services will be in 20 school districts next year.

Sincerely,Shawn Lyden, Executive Vice President,

Akron Children’s Hospital

More than 200 guests enjoyed the 2014 Hail to the Chefs gala at Lake Forest Country Club. Pro-ceeds from the event, which high-lights nine Hudson restaurants and chefs, benefits Akron Children’s Hospital School Health Servic-es. “We appreciate the support of the restaurant community for this event,” said Taste of Hudson Exec-utive Director Andy Malitz. “We’re also getting ready to announce the full line-up of Taste of Hudson res-taurants, so make sure you are fol-lowing Taste of Hudson on Face-book and Twitter to stay current on all details on our 10th Anniver-sary year.”

Media personality Joe Cronauer, along with Taste of Hudson Execu-tive Director Andy Malitz, present-ed the Heart of Hudson Award to

Dr. Jeffrey Hord, director of child-hood cancers and blood disorders at Akron Children’s Hospital. This newly-established award honors in-dividuals who are exemplary Hud-son residents who work at Akron Children’s Hospital. The annual award will be part of future Hail to the Chefs events.

A Hudson resident for many years, Dr. Hord is active in the com-munity and is proud to call Hud-son his home, along with his wife Patricia and their three children.

“I’ve been blessed in so many ways,” said Dr. Hord. “I enjoy good health and have a loving, support-ive family. I work in a profession where I feel like I make a differ-ence in the lives of the children and families for whom I care. I

work for Akron Children’s Hos-pital and the great staff there, with whom I share many values, including treating others as we would want to be treated. And I live in the wonderful community of Hudson, which is a great place to raise a family with excellent public and private schools, an active church at St. Mary’s, won-derful parks and so many fami-ly-oriented activities. Because of all the benefits my family and I have received, I feel compelled to give back to the community and to those in need.”

Taste of Hudson and Hail to the Chefs are produced by Taste of Hudson, Inc., a non-profit cor-poration organized by volunteers to promote the downtown Hud-son restaurant and retail dis-trict and to provide funding for numerous charitable organiza-tions, including Akron Children’s Hospital.

Hail to the ChefsBefore the Taste of Hudson, area residents can get a pre-

view look at the culinary offerings with Hail to the Chefs, which is scheduled in May.

The Labor Day event has grown into one of the largest FREE music festivals in the Mid-west.

Returning favorites and new headliners round out a packed music schedule that offers some-thing for all tastes, from Acoustic to Zydeco. In fact, Taste of Hud-son is a great place to hear new music and acts. Approximately one third of the musical groups performing this year will be new to the event, but local favorites and crowd-pleasers are always an important part of the enter-tainment line up too.

Attendees of Taste of Hudson

can check out music performanc-es on six stages throughout the festival venue from noon to 8pm Sunday and noon to 6pm Mon-day. The festival music team has put together a line-up that show-cases all types of music includ-ing, rock, blues, jazz, R&B, soul, funk and everything in between.

On Sunday night, August 31, Taste of Hudson will present a special evening concert in the North End Wine and Beer Gar-den featuring Straight On, The Heart Tribute Band, and Moni-ca Robins and the Whiskey Kings Band.

New this year! 2014 Taste of Hudson Recycling & Composting

Hudson Environmental Awareness committee along with ReWorks is proud to announce that the Taste of

Hudson will be working towards Zero Waste during the 2014 event. All chefs, vendors, and guests will be asked to consider two waste reduction options.

First, plas-tic bottles, a luminum cans, glass bottles, clean paper, and cardboard are to be p l a c e d i n the desig-nated containers provid-ed throughout the event. These materials will be collected by AA Sanita-tion and transported to a Material Recovery Facili-ty in Akron, Ohio. Food scraps and paper prod-ucts, e.g., paper cups, nap-

kins and waxed paper, will be collected from guests, ven-dors, and chefs by student vol-unteers from Western Re-serve Academy. Staffed sorting

stations will be near the PNC Community Dining tent. The organic mate-rial collected is sent to a licensed Ohio Environ-mental Protection agen-cy compost facility where it is composted into a nu-trient rich soil.
