Dark lighting in an old manor house gives a ghostly and historic feeling while the fashion photographed looks slightly more modern but not so much that the contrast is greatly seen. It is done in an elegant and secretive way. I like the way no other lighting has been used but from the large window off camera which shines directly onto the model. This focus’ instantly onto the model and the fashion while the historic room around her curls around her. The way the lighting creates shadows on the models face makes her look mysterious yet elegant and historic too. This fashion photography is unusual to see but very effective in magazines such as Vogue where this was placed and shown. I would like to use the same dark lighting but with a large window in the corner bringing a flash of lighting in a central part of the photograph.

The location of this photograph is very similar to the location I am going to to shoot my own fashion photography. The dark green walls create more depth in the shadows and with having a large window off frame that lets in a lot of light it creates a contrast within the photograph.

The clothes the model is wearing are plain but with accessories such as the large hat it makes the outfit a lot more elegant and fits with the large room they are photographing in.

The model has been told here to look, how to pose but yet she still looks natural and relaxed. This is the pose and feel I would like to create in my photography.

This photographer, David Bailey, took the 60’s fashion to another level in Vogue’s magazine. He chose a casual fashion to photograph and shot the images in New York and London featuring a natural part of the landscape such as the puddle in this photograph. This gives the photograph more depth and for a fashion photograph to have depth and meaning is unusual but I like this style and depth. I am going to choose my location carefully to give me photographs meaning but also show the fashion off well.

The monochrome filter (black and white) is an effective edit in this time period as it gives the shadows more depth and but makes the photograph look old and more time periodical. This makes the fashion look more vintage than it already it and a high end fashion statement. The black and white reflects the reflection in the puddle back at the model and it even looks like the Statue of Liberty linking to the New York location they are in. in my photography I am going to make these links with discovery and the history around the house like Bailey has done with the location and the pose of the model.

Again the model is wearing plain clothes and her hair and make up has not been done to perfection. She still has messy hair and looks like someone from the public. The pose hasn’t been strongly enforced which gives a candid and natural feel to the photograph which I would like to develop in my photographs.

This photograph is one of a series of photographs which was taken in the same location. All together they look similar with the same monochrome effect and the way the model has been told to pose. This is just what I would like to do with my images and from looking at this series of photographs it has inspired me to develop a series of photographs in the same style.
