Advantages of sourcing images this way:

• Once you have paid for a book the images are free with the book.• Books are found at library's, online, book stores which means there easy to

get hold of. • Books found in libraries are free to borrow. Therefore the image are cheap to

access.

Disadvantages of sourcing images this way:

• When sourcing images from books you will need a scanner or printer to digitalize the image.

• Not all books have images inside.• It can be hard to find the image you want. You may have to look through lots

of different books, and this can take time.• Once the images has been digitalised by scanning or printing, the image may

loose quality.

Images sourced from google images:

Page 5: Task 5

Advantages of sourcing images this way:

• Images from Google are easily accessible and there are plenty of images to choose from.

• It is easy to find an image your looking for as you can type key words or search by colour or size of an image. Google’s features narrow down your search, so you can find the image you’re looking for. The type option lets you specify image types whether you want clipart, photo, face or line drawing within the image search results.

• Google images are already digital but can be printed so that there can be a physical copy.

Disadvantages of sourcing images this way:

• Some images on google can cause Copyright issues. Therefore you may need to pay to use them for commercial use.

• Not all images sourced on google are good quality images, many are compressed down so they can be put on the internet.

• Their Image size and resolution may vary. You might find the image you were looking for but the resolution might be low or the size might be small . You can enlarge this in Adobe Photoshop and other photo editing software but the image can loose quality.

Advantages of sourcing images this way:

• Stock images tend to be good quality as a lot of photographers use stock websites to get their work noticed.

• There are a lots of images which are found on stock image sites and these sites are usually categorised which helps images be easily be found.

• If you buy the image no one will be able to use the image, meaning the image will be exclusive to you, and you will not have any copyright issues as you have paid for the image to be yours.

Disadvantages of sourcing images this way:

• You have to buy them, otherwise they contain watermarks to prevent people from stealing the images.

• Images can be expensive, images used for adverts and business will cost more then images used for personal use.

Page 9: Task 5

Advantages of sourcing images this way:

• They are free to use, you don’t need to pay anyone for the rights to use these images.

• Copyright is not an issue as they are a copyright free source you can use the images on anything you want.

Disadvantages of sourcing images this way:

• Unfortunately a lot of the images sourced this way are not the best quality compared to other ways of sourcing images, such as Stock images.

• The resolutions tend to be low and the size of the images tend to be rather small, although these an be enlarged in photo editing software's such as Adobe Photoshop, but this reduces the resolution further.

Images sourced from your own existing images: My Image

Page 11: Task 5

Advantages of sourcing images this way:

• Images are taken by yourself so they can be exactly what image you need; you can chose your subject, lighting, shoot at an angle you want, etc.

• It is free to use, you don’t need to pay anyone for the image as you have taken the image yourself.

• This way of sourcing images avoids any copyright issues when using this source for commercial work, as it’s your own image.

Disadvantages of sourcing images this way:

• You might not have the equipment to take the image e.g. a tripod an good quality DSLR camera

• You may not be able to capture images of the subject you want easily, E.g. an image of a lion up-close is taken by professionals with their equipment and skills to be able to do so. Lions are not always easy to come across as they live in certain habitats and are very dangerous to be near. Therefore it would be better to source this type of image anther way such as using google images.

Resolution image:

300dpi for print72dpi for web

Page 17: Task 5

Advantages of different resolutions:

• An advantage of using 300dpi is that the image is much clearer and sharper, (due to the higher resolution) then a 72dpi image.

• An advantage of using 72dpi is that the image is smaller therefore it doesn't take up a lot of space on your computer, and it doesn’t need to be compressed to be put on the internet as it is already really small and it is quicker to load.

Disadvantages of different resolutions:

• A disadvantage of using 300dpi is that the image is larger therefore, it takes longer to load an it takes up more space on the computer then a 72dp image.

• A disadvantage of using 72dpi is that the image is lower quality as it is a smaller image and the resolution is low. It will look more pixelated, unclear, and will show less detail compared to a 300dpi image.

Explain the changes you made to the image and explain why you made those changes:

First of all I selected the pool of water and adjusted the hue and saturation so that the water looked cleaner and bluer rather then the brown mucky water in the original image. I then adjusted the levels making the image brighter. I selected the deer and adjusted the levels making the selected area slightly darker to enhance my subject. I then used the clone stamp tool to clean up the image and remove stones and debris on the floor. Finally I sharpened the image so that the image has more detail.
