Task 10

Task 10 – My Formal Proposal Ideas & plans for my magazine cover, contents and double page spread. Title of magazine I have chosen to name my magazine Radar. I have chosen this title as my magazine will focus on new upcoming bands/artists and I feel the title relates to this. Choice of genre I have chose indie-rock / indie-pop as I have a lot of knowledge within this genre. I know what should be in a magazine of this genre as I regularly buy NME magazine and I listen to a lot of indie-rock / indie-pop music. My Target Audience The target audience for my magazine will be both males and females aged between 16 – 24 years old. From researching magazines of a similar genre I know that the majority of their readers are male however it is important for the success of the magazine to have the largest target audience possible. Initial ideas for my front cover My front cover will include; - A flasher ‘Win Festival Tickets...’ - The background of my image will most likely be a single colour. I have chosen to keep it quite minimalist as Q magazine do this quite a lot. - The masthead will run the width of my front cover and should stand out. - My image will be a medium-close-up shot of a male. - Barcode including the price, date and issue number will be in the bottom right of my front cover. Initial ideas for my contents page My contents will take up a single page and will include; - Page split into three columns. (Rule of thirds) - A small subscription promotion in the middle column at the bottom. - A band index list on the left hand side. - A typical contents list on the right hand side. - 2 photos of two different artists (one fairly large, the other fairly small) Initial ideas for my double page spread - One page will be a large image to accompany the interview with the artist. - The other page will just be my article (no pictures) - I’ll use a drop capital at the start of my article. - The image will be a long shot of the male artist at a mixing desk. Initial ideas for photographs - Photo of the mixing desk in the studio for my double page spread. - I may use props such as a guitar or a microphone in some of my photos. - The rest of my photos will be quite minimalist in terms of the background.
