This opening shot is very dark upholding the conventions of the horror/thriller genre, we deliberately made the scene dark to represent the vintage night club feel.

Page 3: Task 1

In this shot we see the magician stood on the dark side of the stage, contrasting his assistant who is stood on the lit side, this suggests to us that he is of a dark nature and that he is connoted to be evil.

We used a distorted font for our title in the sequence as this is a stereotypical feature of the horror/thriller genre.

In this shot we see two young women this is a typical convention of the horror/thriller genre there fore up holding the stereotype.

Page 6: Task 1

In this shot we see the magician (murderer) and the assistant hand in hand him in the dark, her in the light, suggesting her purity and innocence, which are stereotypical characteristics of a victim in the horror/thriller genre. The magician in the dark suggests that he is mysterious, and evil again upholding the stereotype of a murderer in the horror/thriller genre.

Every thing in the opening sequence is black other than characters, the colour black is a huge stereotype in the horror/thriller genre (mostly horror)

The use of a restaurant style tables and chairs allowed us to set up an audience allowing for there to witnesses to the crime, this subverts the horror/thriller genre as murderers usually commit there crimes in secret.

Page 9: Task 1

Blood upholds the stereotype of the horror/thriller genre, as it is a key signifier of death, which in turn is a key characteristic of the genre.

Our film title “The Magician” with the same word reflected, with the word enigma highlighted upholds the stereotypical, mysterious element of the horror/thriller genre.
