Following its crowning glory as 2009 European Car of the Year and the recent launch of the all-new Sports Tourer, it may seem there’s no getting away from the vauxhall Insignia.

And now, there re-ally isn’t! GM uK Special vehicles has pulled the wraps off the all-new Police specification ver-sion of the car, which can be supplied to order to Police fleets throughout the uK.

Three versions are avail-able. A high-speed pur-

suit car featuring either 2.0-litre 220PS turbo or a 2.8-litre 260PS petrol engine and all-wheel drive, or a 160PS 2.0 CdTi patrol car, with a choice of body styles – although it ’s the Sports Tourer that is expected to be the most popu-lar among British forces thanks to its ability to swallow cones, signs and beacons, all part of the daily routine for a Police vehicle in the uK.

“We believe the Insignia gives us a great oppor-tunity for the uK Police

vehicle market,” said dick Ellam, GM uK Manager, vehicle Conversions. “Al-ready we’ve had a great response from profes-sional police drivers, who have compared its per-formance and handling characteristics to those of more expensive premi-um-badged vehicles used by some forces. In these tough economic times, when Police forces are spending public money, this makes the Insignia an even more appealing option.”

We have just updated the phones in the office, and we must say, our new toys are magical. Instant push email, QWERTY keyboard, Wi-Fi, GPS with a 3.2 mega-pixel camera and dual work and personal modes all comes from the new Nokia E71. There are some stonking great deals out at the moment, but what gets me is that it’s better than the I-phone, personally I have never owned one, but its smaller than the I-phone and lighter. Plus it’s not restricted as to what software applications you can or can’t put on the phone. The camera is good enough for quality pictures, and the gps works a treat if you lost.

Recently, LED lighting has become popular due to many vehicles cur-rently on the road having built in LED lights, in particular the ‘Audi Style’ lighting. The Aurora LED lights are designed for retrofitting to give any vehicle an unmistakable modern look, that is sure to get it noticed.

Well now you can style your own car with a great range of day time run-ning lamps. You are best to check out www.ringautomotive.co.uk to check out all the available options.

January 2011 will see the coming into force of European legislation that states all cars manufactured after that date will require EU ap-proved daylight running lights. An automatic switching unit enables the lamps to come on when the ignition is started, as required by the new legislation.

Day Light Running involves vehicles having either their headlamps or special light units on during the hours of daylight. Having the ve-hicle’s lights on during the day improves your vehicles visibility and reduces the risk of accidents in daylight hours. Headlamps on dipped beams were designed for driving at night where as daytime running lights ensure your vehicle is seen during daylight hours. LEDs

The MG TF LE500 is the first rear wheel drive car I have personally driven for more than just a few hours.

So each day, differ-ent weather condi-tions, roads, etc is a huge learning curve for me. And be-ing truthful, I can’t think of a better car to be learning it in.

Pow¬ered by a 1.8 16v with the engine being in the middle of the car, it also produces 135bhp but sti l l manages to get around 30+mpg. I used to think that

soft top convert-ibles had issues with leaking roofs and that inside the car would generally colder, to date, i absolutely love the roof, it’s easy to put down and back up again, it is a simple case of two cl ips. The whole MG TF LE500 comes well specked with rear parking sensors, fog l ights, 16” alloys, good mp3 CD player/

sound sys¬tem and much more.

One thing I noticed last t ime we had the car was when you exhilarate you got 100% commitment from the engine, where as some cars, cars tend to give you a sl ight boost in power you hit a certain rpm, but the MG just doesn’t stop its just full pow-er all the way, its

l ightweight and very responsive engine gives you smooth power that’s always available at just a tap of the drivers r ight foot. 0-60mph can be reached in 8.4 seconds and a good top speed of 127mph.

On the road the car is excel-lent, with it being mid engine, rear-wheel drive, it’s totally differ¬ent to drive than normal front wheel drive cars. It can be tail happy if you drive it tai l happy, drive sensibly and it wil l drive sensibly. It’s a fun car to drive to work, take out on a Sun-day for a drive, or for a day to day car. The other great thing is the two seats, no more hassle of

who’s coming out for a drive, or who needs a l ift home. The lug-gage space in the car isn’t bad for a convert¬ible, it has a large boot, and also allot of interior storage space with a few com-partments.The MG TF was origi¬nally launched in 1995 known as the MG F, it was the first mid-en-gine rear wheel drive car from MG. And it’s come a long way since being launched, the TF were

known to have Head gasket prob-lems. Al¬though today the TF bears the same engine from year 2000 it now has the safety features to notify you low cool¬ant levels, so if your head-gasket goes, it’s your own fault

basi¬cally. Also if you checked out our news section you would of no-ticed the details of the new TF’s be-ing released by MG. I personally have driven the new 75TH anniversary edition, and I must admit it’s fantas-

tic, handles better than the LE500... For more details on the MG range, check out : www.mgmotor.co.uk or if you have any queries then please contact us.

Eric Scott, World Fa-mous Go Fast Jet Pack Man created a Nitro Jet Pack, when we first heard of Jet Pack man we expected someone to fly, but at two feet of the ground and for a couple feet, well we were wrong! At Knockhil l’s Motor-fair weekend we met up with Eric whilst he attempted to create, and beat the world speed record for a Jet Pack. On Friday 8th May Eric attempted his speed record set-ting attempt, but with a 25+ knot wind, heavy rain, Eric only managed to achieve 43mph. Local Fife Constabulary were on hand using Laser sped guns to measure the fl ights speed of 43mph.

Throughout the week-end at Knockhil l’s Motorfair Eric tried each day attempted to beat his record, and on Sunday 10th May he managed to

set his fastest speed world record on a Jet Pack. Eric managed to achieve a staggering 68mph compared to his f irst attempt on the Friday of only 43 mph. Improved weather con-ditions made this pos-sible, with l ight winds, and clear skies.

On Eric’s last and fi-nal record beating attempt, Eric was of-fered a race from BTCC champion Gordon Shedden in a 2009 Ford Focus RS. This wil l be a day to remember, we luckily had our cam-era’s recording and managed to f i lm this race, you can view the video by checking out www.youtube.com/tar-magazine. The Follow-ing Monday the Head-l ines hit the news; “Rocket man beats Ford Focus RS ”“ Focus RS loses to Jet Pack Man ““ Jet Pack man races Ford ““ World Fastest Jet Pack VS Ford Focus RS “

When I first saw our Skoda press car, it looked like a Bentley from the outside, or even a VW Phantom, it just didn’t seem like a Skoda. It’s the first time we have dealt with Skoda, personally I have never owned a Skoda but have been in them a few times. This has to be the most luxurious Skoda I have ever seen, This is the third generation of the Skoda Superb and sits at the top of the Skoda product range. This car sets new standards in design, value, quality, and functionality. I think Skoda are onto a winner with this car.

One thing we didn’t ex-pect to see from Skoda was a whole load of toys to which some are

standard. We had the Elegance Model, which is along the lines of executive kind of per-son. Our favourite fea-ture of the car was the optional Park Assist, an ingenious, crazy and out of this world fea-ture you just didn’t ex-pect to see on a Skoda, this system allows the driver to parallel park there with ease, it cal-culates the distance of the space, tells you the car will fit, and it then take your hands of the wheel, and control the pedals and the Skoda will steer itself into the space. It’s a mag-nificent site to see.

Other features included on the Elegance is AFS also known as Adaptive Front-light system, a system that spreads the

angle of light according to road speed, weather conditions, etc. It also follows the direction of the steering wheel, i.e.

lights up corners bet-ter.

When you look at the Superb from the side,

the rear door looks bigger than the front, inside, it’s almost like sitting in a limo in the back, with tremendous

amounts of leg room making your jour-ney in the Superb Super! ( Sorry we had to add that in )

The Superb is very comfy inside whither you are in the front of the rear, heated front seats keep your

bum warm, whilst a LED display shows the rear passengers the time and outside temperature. An-

other thing we have noticed on Skoda’s is the sound system quality is fantas-tic, at times better

than its competitors. The Navigation touch screen set up makes life easier along with MP3 CD player or a SD memory slot or you can store mu-sic onto the systems hard drive. Means you won’t have to carry CD’s around all the time.

The Skoda Superb offers a wide range of engines to suit ev-eryone’s taste. Three petrol engines and three diesels means there is a wide se-lection. From 1.8 TSI, 3.6 petrol, too 2.0TDI CR 170bhp. We had the 2.0TDI, and when it comes to fuel economy, we found the car to average out around the mid 40’s

which is good. £40 of diesel got us around 460 miles of driving.

Skoda is a popular brand amongst taxi drivers, they need cars that are comfy, practical, economical but at the same time look the part, and the Skoda Superb ticks all those boxes, to find out more about the Skoda Superb or any other Skoda’s please check out www.skoda.co.uk

We hope to review more of the Skoda brand over the next few months so keep an eye out for the re-views.
