T & L - Increased Student

Discussion / Teamwork and

overall engagement with lessons

•The Department is keen to ensure that the priority in lessons is to maintain a high level of learning and progress via the use of methods and systems already well established and successful. However, the following are optional discussion 'triggers' that we also intend to incorporate within lessons only when it is practical, useful, purposeful and realistic...•Specimen exam answers (model deliberately good and bad answers) and discuss solutions together•Use of Contemporary Case Studies for discussion purposes (action from target 1)•Use of 'Classroom Role Cards' to encourage discussion about various aspects of the lesson (also in target 1)•Discussion of contemporary news items (see ebitnow.com for ideas / links to news sources)•Focus on Question Planning within Lesson Plans

T & L - Adapt to a wider variety of student learning

styles

•The Team view is that ‘one size does not fit all’ and we still need to ensure that all students are confident with all learning styles (still need to read, research, write an exam for eg). Students should be given the chance to demonstrate strength areas and reflect upon their favoured learning styles and then be given an opportunity to expand their repertoire! Best examples of this in action occur in exam prep lessons where some students will be..•Creating flashcards•Reading and Note taking•Discussion and Debate•Quizzes and Tests•Sound and Video•Exhibitions and Presentations•Teamwork• Mindmapping and Diagrams• Questions planned ahead of lesson
