The suspense and danger in these films appeal to a younger audience then an older one. Many young audiences aren't put off by the graphic images but are drawn towards the. For example the Saw series contains graphic images through each film, this is why the films are so popular with a younger audience. Males are more likely to be a fan of horror films than girls, but this is due to the stereotype that men aren't afraid of blood and are not very sensitive. I think that horror films are aimed at working class communities. This is due to the level of excitement which is gained through a horror film with a relatively cheap price. If the higher class watch horror films they are usually a sub genre on another genre such as romance or action. This is due to the higher satisfaction middle class individuals seek when watching a film. Generally the target interests of a horror film are blood and intense violence. Also, targeted at individuals that have an interest in the supernatural and unexplained.
