Music Video Target Audience Research

Designing our questionnaireWe thought it would be a good idea to send a survey using surveymonkey.com out to our target audience to gain a batter understanding of what genre of music young adults our age are interested in. We decided to ask questions such as ‘what gender are you?’ and ‘what genre of music do you listen to?’ as this would help us with the planning of our joint music video. Within this survey we also asked what music videos they are drawn to and like the best. Using these results we can then investigate the videos stated and gain some ideas with the way they are filmed (e.g. lighting, camera angles, editing) and what sort of thing they entail. This giving us the maximum understanding of what our target audience are looking for in a music video.

Here you can see that the majority of our target audience are aged 17 and female. This will help us with the planning of our music video in terms of the theme and design. This is because different ages will have different tastes as will different genders. However we will be aiming to produce a music video that relates to both the male an female gender.

2. Genre of music and favourite videos.

Here you can see that the genre of music that the majority of our target audience listen to is pop and R&B however there is also a large amount that listen to Indie and country. This will help us a huge amount when producing our music video as we now know what type of genre will appeal the most to our target audience (young adults). Furthermore we gathered a range of results for their favourite music videos from Nina Nesbitt and Ed Sheeran to Beyonce and Drake. Therefore we will be able to look at all of these artists and gather the best ideas for the theme and editing of our music video.
