DIRECTOR’SMESSAGER. C. Natarajan, PhD | Director

Management is a practitioner’s art. It isnot inborn; it is learnt and nurtured.Management training is what you doto a person’s work skills, whereasmanagement education is what you doto his/her mind. Management educationat TAPMI is no different. It focuses onstudent’s minds, their thinking process, attitudes, values, aspirations, self-awareness, risk-bearing, tolerance todiversity, ability to get on with the missionunder tremendous adversity, and so forth. It is this that distinguishes TAPMI fromother business schools.

TAPMI believes that education that isdevoid of values and of focus on cultureis mechanistic and has no relevance tosociety. The students of TAPMI inculcatevalues through their day-to-day life, not through forceful compliance but byexposure to the consequences of theiractions for themselves and for society.

Structures and systems can go onlya small way in this direction. Respect forcultural diversity and inculcation of valueshappen in the students over a period oftwo years at the campus, wherein theyencounter the challenges of scarceresources, such as time and energy,of pressing and conflicting needs, such asproject works and pre-class preparations,of fiercely competitive scenarios, suchas academic performance, simulations,BrandScan and Atharva, of managing theirbudgets, both personal and that of theInstitute, and of adjusting with those fromdiverse backgrounds, states, religions, castes and academics. They learn tomanage themselves by practicing the artof management. This explains the actualtheme of TAPMI’s learning culture:Management in Practice.
