The EMCO WHEATON Strategic Business Unit (SBU) operates within the Fluid Transfer Division of Gardner Denver Inc., of Quincy Illinois. The organization is divided into two opera-tional segments, namely Fuel Systems and Loading Systems and comprises five manufacturing plants located in Houston Texas, USA; Ontario, Canada; Töreboda, Sweden; Kirchhain, Germany and Margate, UK. FUEL SYSTEMS

When loading the Guard bar is released and lowered, this sequences air to the manifold valves and ensures that they are in the closed position. This design offers maximum flow rates.

Versatile bulk unloading is made possible by leaving the manifold valves closed and allowing maximum product to flow straight through the manifold valve.

Unloading is made possible through either pump system by opening the required manifold valve. This allows product to flow out of the manifold to the pump. Cross contamination is eliminated when using the sequenced air system that ensures only one valve can be opened.

When the guard bar assembly is locked and closed this ensures complete security as no product can flow through the API Adaptor.

LOADING AND UNLOADING GUIDE

On arrival at the loading bay, the display must show “empty” (fi g 1).

Any residue from the previous delivery will run down the API valve and may cause the display to show “API wet”.

Loading can commence with display showing as either “empty” or “empty” & “API wet” (fi g 2).

On commencement of loading, the display will read “unsealed” (skipping) and “API wet” (fi g 3).

At completion of loading, when the API valve is closed, the display will show “sealed” & “API wet” (fi g 4).

On arrival at the delivery point, the display will show “sealed” & “API wet” (fi g 4).

Upon opening the emergency valve, and the API valve, to commence delivery, the display will show “unsealed” (fl ashing) and “API wet” (fi g 5).

When the compartment and run-off pipe are empty of product, the “API wet” indication will be extinguished. With the API adaptor remaining open, close the emergency valve to display a solid “unsealed” message (fi g 6).

When the emergency valve is closed then re-opened, the display will show “empty” (fi g 1). Only when the display shows “empty” is the product delivery complete.

HOW THE SEALED DELIVERY SYSTEM WORKSThe indicator on top of the API valve gives a continuous display of the product status of the compartment, and run off pipes to which the valve is attached. The display

indicates five states:- SEALED, UNSEALED, EMPTY, BATTERY and API WET. A black rectangle indicates which state, or states, are current. The remainder of the display is blank.

The 2” High Flow PV Vent provides pressure venting to atmosphere, for the tanker vapour line when it is not sealed, for vapour transfer. The pneumatic cylinder seals the vent when vapour transfer is required.Aerodynamic porting facilitates extremely high throughput.Pressure: Air flow at 21 kPa = 198200 litres per hour (7000 cubic feet per hour).Mandatory rollover seal off is included. The F0800 hose couplings are for use in Stage 1B vapour return i.e. for return of vapours to the tank truck whilst unloading/delivering to service stations with a vapour return pipe. SPRING EMERGENCY VENTINGFour visible, corrosion proof, plated spring emergency venting. The springs are not shrouded in a rubber sleeve, which was the cause of a major failure on another manufacturer’s manhole cover due to rainwater ingress that could not dry out and consequently corroded the single spring. The corrosion was not evident, as the spring was not visible. The UK Health & Safety Commission identified this as a cause of failure in an official report.

ORIENTATION OF MANHOLE COVERSAll Emco Wheaton manhole covers, except the F0339 oval manhole cover, can be supplied as left-hand or right-hand configuration. This enables ancillary items, such as HLCO, dip tube or mechanical top operator, to be positioned on the tanker centre line.

If the ancillary ports are to the left of the fi llcap, the manhole cover is designated as left-hand.

If the ancillary ports are to the right of the fi llcap, the manhole cover is designated as right-hand.

The hinge pin should always face the front of the tanker to ensure that the manhole cover falls shut in the event of a tanker driving away with the manlid open. This will ensure that the manhole cover will close to the fi rst latch position.

Incorporated in all standard Emco Wheaton manhole covers, and available separately with rain cap, the 2” High Flow Pressure and Vacuum Vent Valve provides breathing for petroleum product tankers.Aerodynamic porting facilitates extremely high throughput. Pressure: Air flow at 21 kPa = 198200 l/h(7000 cubic feet per hour). Vacuum: Air flow at 7 kPa = 99100 l/h (3500 cubic feet per hour).Mandatory roll over seal off, as required by the U.K. Health and Safety Executive, is included. FEATURES AND BENEFITSThe ‘&’ logic element may be used in the pneumatic circuit when an air signal is required from two sources before a signal is released to activate a valve. For example, when actuation of a tanker’s valve is required only when another part of the air circuit has been activated, for safety reasons such as ensuring vent valves are open.When the ‘&’ logic receives an air signal to both of its feed in ports, a signal is allowed through its out port. If it receives only one signal it will not be transmitted through.It has 4 mm push-in fittings for the nylon air tube.

This vent valve is for external mounting on road and rail fuel oil tankers, or static storage tanks. It protects the tank against collapse or rupture by enabling the tank to ‘breathe’ to atmosphere due to the volume variations caused by temperature change. Under normal conditions the pressure relief will open at 70 mb (1 psig) and the vacuum relief at 3 mb. Additional venting is incorporated for emergency response to higher internal tank pressures, such as may be encountered in the event of a fire. Three opening pressures are available for this condition; 140, 210 or 420 mb (2, 3 or 6 psig). An upset device is also included to prevent excessive liquid loss if the tanker overturns. This feature is overridden, however, should the emergency venting device come into operation.

The Emco Wheaton F0052 Ullage Gauge is an adjustable level indicator that can be attached to the underside of the manhole cover baseplate or to the fixing collar. Once installed it can be sealed at the correct ullage setting to aid with top loading, acting as a visual guage for the maximum fill level.
