Brethren: HAPPY NEW YEAR! Here itis January 2012. Your Scottish Rite had achallenging year in 2011 but I feel that wecame through it better than some expected. We again hosted the Orient of Florida'sHonors Weekend and were happy to wel-come Ill∴ Ronald Seale, 33°, Grand Com-mander of the Southern Jurisdiction to theConsistory for the weekend's activities.

To begin the year, congratulations are in order to those who have beenelected to serve the Valley of Tampa in 2012. Of course, I am talkingabout our new Master of Kadosh, Brother Kenneth Warner, 32° KCCH,Commander of Kadosh, Brother Ken Scott, 32°, Wise Master, BrotherLouie Nelsen, 32° KCCH and Venerable Master, Brother Ron Lupien,32° KCCH. These four brothers along with the other members of theExecutive Committee will be working hard during the year to provide theleadership and new ideas that will make us successful this year. For theseprograms to be successful, we will need the support of as many of ourmembers as possible.

Many brothers worked hard in 2011 for the benefit of the Valley. Aspecial thanks go out to our outgoing heads of the Bodies, Brother JohnWermann, 32° KCCH, Ill∴ Richard Agster, 33°, Brother Stan Rakita,32° KCCH and Brother Coleman Hill, 32° KCCH for everything thatthey did in 2011. I would also like to thank Brothers Rick Hoover, 32°KCCH and Carl Gilmore, 32° KCCH for their years of service on theExecutive Committee. Brethren, your work and efforts are greatly appre-ciated by all the members of the Valley. All of our Committee Chairmenand their committees spent many hours this year getting ready for ourReunions, Flag Day, our monthly meetings and our efforts on behalf ofthe Scottish Rite Foundation of Florida. Brethren, THANK YOU for allthat you have done this past year.

In closing, brethren I ask again that you do what you can for yourScottish Rite in 2012, That may be attending Consistory meetings, Clubmeetings, volunteering your time for projects that need to be accom-plished or encouraging your Blue Lodge brethren who are not members ofthe Scottish Rite to take that next step in Freemasonry. As always, ideasand suggestions are always welcomed and encouraged.

Donations toOperating FundPrior to the last Execu-tive Committee meeting, the Investment Commit-tee had a meeting withits advisor from SmithBarney. Our advisor, along with the members fromthe Investment Committee, has strongly recom-mended that the Executive Committee come up witha way to generate funds in order to run the Consis-tory on a daily basis. Currently, the Consistory hasto take money out of the investment portfolio inorder to operate.

We have done a good job at controlling operatingexpenses, but most of the line item expenses arefixed, such as utility bills. In addition, we justreceived from the Supreme Council an invoice for$52,416 for per-capita billing for 3,278 members. This is a 90% assessment based on membershiprecords as of November 29. We will still be billedfor the remaining 10%.

With that in mind, I would like to respectfullyrequest that you remember that it takes money tokeep up a 38-year-old building the size of ourMasonic Center. Please consider making a donationto the Operating Fund so that we may continue tooperate out of this magnificent building that we areblessed to own.

Calling All VolunteersThe Scottish Rite is looking for volunteers to assistwith several projects around the Masonic Center. We are looking to formalize a list of members'names and phone numbers, along with any specialtalents or interests that you may have.

If you are indeed interested in being a volunteer, please call the Masonic Center to sign up.

Scottish RiteMasonic Funeral/ Memorial ServiceThe Scottish Rite does have an absolutely beautifulfuneral/memorial service that is available to itsmembers. Unfortunately, most members are totally

unaware that it exists, and are only aware of thebasic Masonic funeral/memorial service availablefrom Blue Lodge.

The service is available to all Scottish RiteMasons who are current with their dues.

Unfortunately, we have attended way to manyfunerals and/or memorial services where it wasn'teven mentioned that the deceased was a very activeMason.

This occurs because the brother has not properlyexpressed his wishes for a Masonic service inwriting to members of his family.

Please don't let this happen to you. If you wouldlike to have a Scottish Rite funeral or memorialservice, document it in writing and give it to yourloved ones.

If you should have any questions, please feel freeto contact the General Secretary.

I would like to wish allmy Brethren a happy Newand Prosperous New Year. Iwould also like all of us torestart an old custom we hadused for many, many years inthe Valley of Tampa, butsomehow just got thrown

under the bus, to use a modern phrase. When you attenda meeting, or function at our "Temple" or your "BlueLodge." When you meet another brother, especially aBrother you don't know his name-us older Brothers havethis problem a lot, or recognize, or even if you do, walkup to him, say "welcome, my Brother, glad to be withyou, (give him your name",) sit with him if you'rehaving supper, or attending a degree or just a meeting. That's what Fellowship and Brotherly Love is all about. All too often I have heard many new Entered Appren-tices and new Masters of the Royal Secret stand aroundlike lost sheep, no one greets them or seems to careanything about them, and then we wonder why ourmembership continues to decline? Remember thosewords, "Relief, Truth And Brotherly Love," we aretaught as part of the foundation of Freemasonry. Ichallenge each and every one of you my Brothers in2012 to make it part of your New Year's Resolution. GodBless.

In Memoriam“Sunset and evening star, and one clear call for me! And may there be no moaning of thebar, when I put out to sea, but such a tide as moving seems asleep, too full for sound andfoam, when that which drew from out the boundless deep turns again home. Twilight andevening bell, and after that the dark! And may there be no sadness of farewell, when Iembark; for tho’ from out our bourne of Time and Place the flood may bear me far, I hopeto see my Pilot face to face when I have crossed the bar. - Tennyson
