In March 2009, Dysart Trucking from Dysart, Iowa was
honored with the GE award for excellence. They rank #1
in GE wind tower carriers for safety and performance, also
hauling other big names in the sector like Mitsubishi,
Gamesa, Clipper and Suzion. Dysart Trucking is further-
more a company driven by innovation. They designed and
introduced a trailer 50% lighter, and in partnership with
Peterson Trucking (also from Dysart) is preparing to break
ground on a new Dysart expansion in June 2009.

May 4-7, 2009 Tama County Economic Development
joined Gov. Chet Culver for the second year at the
annual WINDPOWER conference to communicate
Iowa’s capacities in providing solutions for the grow-
ing wind power sector. In spite of a down economy,
this sector has been consistently strengthening its
interest in Tama County over the past two years.
Here are some of the reasons wind farm developers
and manufacturers say that they have an interest in
Tama County and surrounding area.

• Wind capacity is above average in Tama Co.
• Open spaces max potential of turbine output
• Strong capacity of the grid in Tama Co.
• Proximity to markets are good
Manufacturing

• Iowa legislature shapes the market with progress
driven benchmarks
• Iowa ranks 2nd in low cost for doing business

pleted by Nov 2010, price tag $54M. Por-
tions of the hwy connecting Tama-Benton
and Marshall-Story is also in the 5 year
plan for improvements.
SMALL SCHOOL DISTRICTS ACHIEVE

are more efficient academically with
higher proficiency scores and lower drop-
out rates. Iowa ranked 3rd in the Nation
with the majority of its 250+ school dis-
tricts have K-12 populations under 800
students. Source: U.S. Department of Edu-
cation’s National Center for Education
Statistics.

Thanks to a Hazard Mitigation grant, the
cities of Tama County have started a com-
munity planning process that addresses
not only safety planning, but also commu-
nity development factors to shape the
future of each community.
2009 EARMARKS
Meskwaki Clinic was the only earmark
with direct impact to Tama Co. that re-
ceived support in the omnibus spending
bill in March. It received $618,000. Tens of
millions of dollars where allocated to Iowa
overall for projects ranging from Research
& Development, Education, Health Care,
Government Facilities, to Arts & Culture
in cities and organizations large and small.
PLANS FOR BIO-ENERGY CAMPUS
City of Tama & the state of Iowa have
been approached to be conduits in a $520
million bond for Alpha holdings interested
acquisition development and construction
of a fully integrated bio-energy campus in
Tama and Dexter.
RETAIL GROWTH CAPACITY
An ISU study indicates over $80M of retail
dollars leave the county. Researchers esti-
mate that a capacity of just under $30M
could feasibly be recouped if the right
retail businesses locate in Tama Co. Cur-
rently inquiries from national chains with
interest locating on the new bypass indi-
cate an increasing awareness of the po-
tential for retail in Tama County.

lower prices to orchestrate a strategic expansion or repositioning.
