Conference SynopsisThe annual CTBUH Tall + Urban Innovation Conference explores and celebrates the very best in innovative tall buildings, urban spaces, building technologies, and construction practices from around the world. Incorporating what was previously known as the CTBUH Annual Awards Event, this two-day conference will see the owner/developers and design teams for 45 Finalist projects present in front of an international audience and live juries for winning distinctions across the following award categories: Best Tall Building Americas, Asia & Australasia, Europe, and Middle East & Africa; Urban Habitat; Construction; Innovation; and the 10 Year Award. In addition, the winners in each regional category will be judged for the single title of “2018 Best Tall Building Worldwide.”
The event brings to Chicago, the home of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat, a critical cross-section of tall building owners, developers, occupiers, designers, engineers, builders, and operators – along with the interested public – to investigate the cutting-edge in sustainable urbanism, as presented by the world’s foremost examples.
Join us and explore what’s on the horizon for dense vertical cities of the future!

Program Overview
The Conference will take place across two days and two tracks of programming, where the owner/developer and consultant teams for each Finalist project will present to an international audience and the live juries for consideration of winning titles across eight Award categories. The honor of overall Best Tall Building “Worldwide” is also judged based on these Finalist presentations. All winners will be awarded at the Awards Ceremony & Dinner at the end of Day 2.
The CTBUH Annual Awards program recognizes projects and individuals that have made extraordinary contributions to the advancement of tall buildings and the urban environment, and that achieve sustainability at the highest and broadest level. The objective is to deliver a comprehensive and sophisticated view of these important buildings, spaces, and technologies, while advocating for improvements in every aspect of their performance, especially those that have the greatest effect on the people who use them each day. This means that the buildings highlighted are often not the tallest in a given year, but represent the best qualities and innovations in the typology.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, attendees will see firsthand which of the Best Tall Building Regional Winners will obtain the coveted title of “2018 Best Tall Building Worldwide.”
This special reception held on the first evening of the Conference will give VIPs and honored guests the opportunity to mingle in the fantastic setting of the Blue Cross-Blue Shield Tower. Kindly sponsored by Lotte Property & Development, the reception will take place on the 30th-floor, offering expansive views toward Millennium Park to the south, and the Lakeshore East development to the north.
Delegates have dinner at the historic Royal Courts of Justice during the CTBUH 2013 Conference in London.
Delegates mingle on the roof of 33 Alfred Street, Sydney during the opening VIP Reception of the CTBUH 2017 Conference in Australia.
VenueRadisson Blu Aqua Hotel at the Aqua Tower
The conference will be held at the Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel in downtown Chicago. Located in the Lakeshore East neighborhood on Columbus Drive, Aqua Tower offers spectacular views of the city, a variety of convenient amenities, and upscale accommodations.
Completed in 2009, Aqua Tower was itself recognized as a Best Tall Building Americas Finalist in the 2010 Awards program. The building design draws influence from its impressive neighbor, Lake Michigan. The wave-like shape of each unique balcony provides guests with a view of the skyline, Millennium Park, or the Chicago Lakefront. Aqua boasts extensive meeting spaces with an elegant ballroom, as well as a spa and recreational facilities, a rooftop swimming pool, and a modern lifestyle garden. Minutes from the Magnificent Mile and Millennium Park, Aqua Tower is just a short walk from the best entertainment the Windy City has to offer.
Very favorable, negotiated rates at the Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel mean that you can stay in this prime location during the conference for a highly competitive rate of $269 per night. In particular, as a non-profit organization, CTBUH has to guarantee a minimum number of rooms at the hotel, so delegates are urged to help reduce this risk to the Council by please staying at the conference hotel.
