What is a tall tale?

Tall Tales are fictional stories that stretch the truth.

Tall tales are part of literature called folktales. Folktales are stories passed along by word

of mouth and sometimes written down.

Tall tales were told in America by the settlers who made their homes in the American wilderness. After a long day's work, people would gather together and tell one another unbelievable stories about exaggerated weather, animals or characters.
