Dear Actors and Parents!Dear Actors and Parents!Dear Actors and Parents!Dear Actors and Parents!
Welcome to our first Jr. Thespian Fall Production. It has been the goal of the
Playmaker Board Members for the last several years, to provide additional drama
activities at Sacred Heart. Our fall Jr. Thespian program is aimed specifically at 4th
and 5th graders who are ready for bigger roles but often do not have the opportunity to
play an individual character in our very large spring Playmaker productions.
The script for The Tailors Tall Talecomes out of a series of scripts developed
by Deonn Hunt and Kim Douglass to be used for young actors in school or camp
situations. The unique aspects of these scripts are: every student has an individual
role with unique character traits, all the parts in the play are equitable, the music is
catchy and written in easy keys for younger voices, the production values for sets areminimal and the overall length is manageable in a short rehearsal time. Additionally,
our SHS production will be written to accommodate the exact number of students we
have in the fall program.
All rehearsals and performances for The Tailors Tall Talewill take place in the
Moore Theatre. Since the Moore Theatre is already equipped with curtains, lights,
sound and actual theatre seating, this allows us to spend our time working on our
material and our acting/singing/dancing skills instead of installing sound and lighting
systems the day before the show!
This is a brand new program for Playmakers so Im sure there will be a few
hiccups along the way. We ask that you be patient with our wonderful volunteer
board members while we sort out issues like tickets, programs, seating and of course,
our very busy SHS calendar. We welcome all of your ideas, input and concerns so
please feel free to contact any of the Playmaker board while we work together to
create a wonderful new drama program.
Most sincerely,
Kim DouglassKim DouglassKim DouglassKim DouglassDrama Director, The Tailors Tall Tale

AUDITIONS and CASTINGWe will not be holding separate outside auditions for our show. Instead, during the first week of
rehearsals we will have in-class time to do cold-readings, learn songs and dances and try out different
characters. Casting will be announced via e-mail on Friday the 28th.
TIME COMMITMENTWe all struggle to use our time well and to fit in all of our important activities.. And that includes our
drama rehearsals! Please do your best to come to all rehearsals for the full amount of time (3:00-
5:00). We will be using every minute to rehearse so it is unlikely that students will have time to workon homework during rehearsals. If there is ever downtime at rehearsals actors should be reviewing
lines, dances and songs.
CONFLICTSOn Monday, our first rehearsal, students will be bringing home an audition form. It is very important
that parents fill in the conflicts section completely. Conflicts are inevitable, but we can work around
almost anything. It does, however, become very important when casting our show. We just need to
make sure that all actors who are grouped together (ie: the 2 tailors, the royalty, the designers, the
princesses) are available to do their scenes and songs at the same time.
ABSENCESRehearsal conflicts are difficult on everyone. Actors who have three or more unexcused or
unreportedabsences may be asked to meet with the director to discuss their
role in the show. Additionally, for the safety of all of our students, we take attendance at every
rehearsal to make sure all students are accounted for. To report any upcoming absences please
contact the director at [email protected]. For last minute changes you can call the front
office: (425) 451-1773.

PICK UP AND ESS
All students are to be picked up promptly when their call time ends. Students will be exiting rehearsal
through the double doors outside of the Moore theatre. Students who are not picked up within 10
minutes of the end of rehearsal will be sent to ESS.
COMMUNICATIONThe Playmaker website, http://sacredheart.org/Playmakers will be our primary means of
communication. E-mail blasts will only be used for last minute changes or for individual
communication. We will post all schedules and pertinent show information to the website. Please
check the website often. All rehearsal schedules will be posted in a timely manner.
COSTUMESCostumes will once again be designed by our fabulous costumer, Terri Ericson. She will be providing
the main costume pieces for each character. Individual students will be asked to provide appropriate
undergarments and shoes. Terri will send out information after rehearsals begin, outlining the specific
items needed for each student. Information regarding hair and make-up will be sent home before our
tech week.
CLOSED REHEARSALS AND CHAPERONESPlaymaker rehearsals are considered closed rehearsals. Family and friends are asked to wait
outside of the rehearsal area for your students. This keeps our noise level and distractions to a
minimum. However, if you would like to observe rehearsals we encourage you to volunteer to
become a rehearsal chaperone.
BEHAVIOR/DISCIPLINE POLICYJr. Thespiansfollows the same rules of conduct as students are expected to follow during the school
day, as outlined on the SHS website in the Code of Conduct document. For daily rehearsals we willfollow a three strikes--youre out policy. Details of our rehearsal policy will be outlined at our first
rehearsal and our parent meeting.
DAILY REHEARSAL ROUTINEWe will be singing, dancing and acting EVERY DAY! So it is important to wear those comfortable
shoes. We will be taking a snack break from 3:00-3:15 daily so its a good idea to pack a quick
healthy snackfruit, vegetables, crackers, cheese sticks, granola bars are all good items to snack
on. Please stay away from messy foods or items that take a long time to consumeJamba Juice,
anything frozen, sushi, soup, yogurt, pizza or anything that has to be heated up. All of our snacks will
be put away or thrown away no later than 3:20. Please make sure your actor brings a water bottlewith a closed top and LABELED with their name!
VOLUNTEERS !!!All theatre productions require volunteers to help with the myriad of jobs for each production. Our
show is no exception! We need helpers in the following areas: Rehearsal pick up monitors,
concessionaires, dressing room monitors, box office staff and ushers. We are asking that each
parent volunteer for at last one position during our production. More information will be available at
our PARENT MEETING 4:45-5:00 on Monday, September 24. Detailed volunteer information will
also be posted on our website beginning next week.
