Solution Option: Standby ServiceIn this case, use of the LTE backup link to forward traffic under normal circumstances is not desired. The LTE link is in “standby” with the Talari Stand-by WAN linkcapability used to monitor the LTE link which is identified as a “link of last resort.” The stand-by link becomes active in the event all other WAN links are no longer available or are administratively disabled. In this case, the transition time from standby to active is less than 1 sec. A key thing to note is that while in standby mode, a minimal amount of traffic is sent down the LTE network to ensure link integrity and availability.
Solution Option: Active ServiceThe active solution utilizes all of the WAN links that are deployed, including the Data2Go LTE backup link, to forward traffic. The Talari appliances leverage their real-time WAN and application performance measurements combined with business policy to determine when to leverage the LTE link to accommodate the passing of traffic. While the benefits of active mode include additional bandwidth being available for applications and more reliable and rapid transition between less optimal (bad) paths, this option does introduce higher cellular network utilization and potential increased cost. Thus appropriate planning should be leveraged to ensure the cost-efficient use of the cellular link.
