TALA

Is the rhythmic cycle of India. The sum total of thedifferent beats repeated in some parts of acomposition. Tempo is called laya. The laya mayvary from fast (druta) to medium (madhya) or

slow(vilambita). In hindustani music, the unit of time

iscalled Matra and in Karnatak music it’s calledAkshara.The tala is divided into rhythmic groups called angas.
