What happens in a Tai Chi for Arthritis class?Tai Chi for Arthritis classes begin with warm-up exercises. The leader then demonstrates one or two movements per lesson. You will be encouraged to learn the movements properly and slowly, working within your comfort zone to ensure safety and benefit. The lesson ends with cool-down exercises.

How often will I need to practise?If you join a Tai Chi for Arthritis class you will need to attend once or twice a week and practise one or two movements for about 10 to 15 minutes each day. If you learn at home you can set your own pace. Either way you should gradually build up your practice sessions and aim for about 10 to 20 minutes on most days.

How much does it cost?The cost of Tai Chi for Arthritis lessons varies depending on who is teaching the class and where it is being offered, but once you have learned the basics, you can practise it at any time for free, almost anywhere. All you need are some flat, well-fitting shoes and loose, comfortable clothing.

The instructional video or DVD and handbook can be purchased from Arthritis Victoria. Arthritis Victoria members can borrow these for free. Many local libraries also have copies available.

What should I look for in a class?An instructor who has a Tai Chi for Arthritis leader certificate.
