Tafseer Surah Al Baqarah – Doa - Ayat 2/186 Cont.( June 11. 2013) Page 1 REVISION OF AYAT 2 / 102 نِ كٰ ـَ لَ وُ نٰ ـَ مۡ يَ لُ سَ رَ فَ ا ڪَ مَ وۖ َ نٰ ـَ مۡ يَ لُ سِ كۡ لُ مٰ ىَ لَ عُ ينِ طٰ ـَ ي ٱلشْ واُ لۡ تَ ا تَ مْ واُ عَ ب ٱتَ وَ رۡ ح ٱلسَ اس ٱلنَ ونُ م لَ عُ يْ واُ رَ فَ كَ ينِ طٰ ـَ ي ٱلشِ نۡ يَ ڪَ لَ مۡ ى ٱلَ لَ عَ لِ نزُ أٓ اَ مَ وَ وتُ رٰ ـَ هَ لِ ابَ بِ بَ وتُ رٰ ـَ مَ وۚ ٓ َ ولُ قَ يٰ ى تَ حٍ دَ حَ أۡ نِ مِ انَ م لَ عُ ا يَ مَ وۡ رُ فۡ كَ تَ َ ف ةَ نۡ تِ فُ نۡ حَ ا نَ م نِ إۖ َ ونُ م لَ عَ تَ يَ ف ۦِ هِ جۡ وَ زَ وِ ءۡ رَ مۡ ٱلَ نۡ يَ ۦ بِ هِ بَ ونُ ق رَ فُ ا يَ ا مَ مُ هۡ نِ مۚ لِ إٍ دَ حَ أۡ نِ ۦ مِ هِ بَ ين رٓ اَ ضِ م بُ ا هَ مَ وِ ٱِ نۡ ذِ إِ بۚ ۡ مُ هُ عَ نفَ يَ لَ وۡ مُ ه رهُ ضَ ا يَ مَ ونُ م لَ عَ تَ يَ وۚ ُ هَ ا لَ مُ هٰ َ رَ تۡ ٱشِ نَ مَ لْ واُ مِ لَ عۡ دَ قَ لَ وىِ ۥ ف ٍ قٰ ـَ لَ خۡ نِ مِ ةَ رِ خَ ۡ ٱۚ ۡ مُ هَ سُ نفَ أۤ ۦِ هِ بْ اۡ وَ رَ ا شَ مَ سۡ ئِ بَ لَ وۚ ( َ ونُ مَ لۡ عَ يْ واُ انَ ڪۡ وَ ل٢٠١ ) They followed what the Shayâtin (devils) gave out (falsely of the magic) in the lifetime of Sulaimân (Solomon). Sulaimân did not disbelieve, but the Shayâtin (devils) disbelieved, teaching men magic and such things that came down at Babylon to the two (angels,) Hârût and Mârût, but neither of these two angels taught anyone (such things) till they had said, "We are only for trial, so disbelieve not (by learning this magic from us)." And from these (angels) people learn that by which they cause separation between man and his wife, but they could not thus harm anyone except by Allâh's Leave. And they learn that which harms them and profits them not. And indeed they knew that the buyers of it (magic) would have no share in the Hereafter. And how bad indeed was that for which they sold their ownselves, if they but knew. (102) Allah sent to Bani Israel the Divine Book but they do not obey the teachings in the Book ( Taurat). When anyone does not want to submit to Allah , they will still follow something but they will submit to the very inferior . Ayat 2 /101 : ۡ مُ هَ عَ ا مَ م ل ق دَ صُ مِ ٱِ ندِ عۡ ن م ولُ سَ رۡ مُ هَ ءٓ اَ ا ج مَ لَ وَ ذَ بَ نْ واُ وتُ أَ ينِ ذ ٱلَ ن م يقِ رَ فۡ مِ هِ ورُ هُ ظَ ءٓ اَ رَ وِ ٱَ بٰ ـَ تِ ڪَ بٰ ـَ تِ كۡ ٱلَ ونُ مَ لۡ عَ يَ لۡ مُ ه نَ أَ ك( ٢٠٢ ) And when there came to them a Messenger from Allâh (i.e. Muhammad Peace be upon him ) confirming what was with them, a party of those who were given the Scripture threw away the Book of Allâh behind their backs as if they did not know! (101)

كن ـ ن ول ـ ن وما ڪفر سليم ـ طين على ملك سليم ـ ي بعوا ما تتلوا ٱلش وٱتحر طين كفروا يعلمون ٱلناس ٱلس ـ ي روت وما أنزل على ٱلملڪين ٱلش ـ ببابل ه

روت ـ فل تكفر وما يعلمان من أحد حتى يقول ومما نحن فتنة فيتعلمون إن

قون بهۦ بين ٱلمرء وزوجهۦ ين بهۦ من أحد إل منهما ما يفر وما هم بضار هم ول ينفعهم بإذن ٱلل ه ما له ويتعلمون ما يضره ۥ فى ولقد علموا لمن ٱشتر

ق ـ (٢٠١لو ڪانوا يعلمون ) ولبئس ما شروا بهۦ أنفسهم ٱلخرة من خل

They followed what the Shayâtin (devils) gave out (falsely of the magic) in the lifetime of Sulaimân (Solomon). Sulaimân did not disbelieve, but the Shayâtin (devils)

disbelieved, teaching men magic and such things that came down at Babylon to the

two (angels,) Hârût and Mârût, but neither of these two angels taught anyone (such things) till they had said, "We are only for trial, so disbelieve not (by learning this

magic from us)." And from these (angels) people learn that by which they cause separation between man and his wife, but they could not thus harm anyone except by

Allâh's Leave. And they learn that which harms them and profits them not. And

indeed they knew that the buyers of it (magic) would have no share in the Hereafter. And how bad indeed was that for which they sold their ownselves, if they but knew.

(102)

Allah sent to Bani Israel the Divine Book but they do not obey the teachings in the Book ( Taurat). When anyone does not want to submit to Allah , they will still follow something but they will submit to the very inferior . Ayat 2 /101 :

ق لما معهم مصد ن عند ٱلل ا جاءهم رسول م ن ٱلذين أوتوا نبذ ولم فريق م وراء ظهورهم ب ٱلل ـ ب ڪت ـ هم ل يعلمون ٱلكت (٢٠٢) كأن

And when there came to them a Messenger from Allâh (i.e. Muhammad Peace be upon him ) confirming what was with them, a party of those who were given the

Scripture threw away the Book of Allâh behind their backs as if they did not know! (101)

!! “ they cast it behind their backs “ نبذ هم ل يعلمون as if they did not know “ ie as if they don’t know what they were leaving “ كأن

So when they deny their Book, they worshipped something inferior . When someone is not a slave of Allah, he will be a slave of something else ( other than Allah) which is inferior . They do

not deserve the (high) status of a believer when they deny Allah ( they deserve being inferior

when they worship other than Allah). In Ayat 2/ 102 : When they denied their Divine Book :

بع واوٱت ‘ they followed ‘

ن ـ طين على ملك سليم ـ ي what the Shayâtin (devils) gave out (falsely‘ ما تتلوا ٱلش

of the magic) in the lifetime of Sulaimân ‘ .’Sulaiman’ is in the middle ( of the Ayat) . When

Bani Israel left their divine book, they turned to magic !

There are 2 ways towards magic ( the kind of Bani Israel ):

(1) The first way is by inspiration from Shaitan

who said this is from ن ـ Mulk Sulaiman ! Sulaiman had the / ملك سليم

Kingship , so ( from what Shayateen told them) they said that Sulaiman had some hidden secrets which allows him the magic to control the Jinns. This was wrong . This was illusion from Shaitan. So Allah defended Sulaiman :

ن ـ . ’Sulaimân did not disbelieve‘ وما ڪفر سليم

This Ayat shows MAGIC IS KUFR. Any involvement in magic makes one kufr because they want

other hidden power . The magic is real but it is kufr. Sulaiman did not resort to magic. They said it’s from Nabi Sulaiman a.s. But it is

all from the shaitan.

ن و ـ طين كفروا ما ڪفر سليم ـ ي كن ٱلش ـ ول Sulaimân did not disbelieve, but the Shayâtin (devils) disbelieved

Bani Israel left the divine books so Shaitan played the tricks in their mind so that Bani Israel ended up following kalam ul shayateen / the words of Satan .

The people followed the kalamul shayateen (they write backwards , they write in different letters & different ink, etc) & resorted to magic. To be a magician, he must disbelieve in Allah & humiliate the Quran first . The more kufr the magician is , the more shayateen is under his control ! They will serve the magician but HE LOSES HIS DEEN. Magic negatively affects many parties: the magician, those who applies the magic & the victims. (2) The other way is from the angels Haroot and Maroot .

روت ـ روت وم ـ وما أنزل على ٱلملڪين ببابل هand such things that came down at Babylon to the two (angels,) Hârût and Mârût,

Allah sent Haroot & Maroot in Baabil ( in Iraq) & as an ikhtibaar, they had magic & they would know how the magic work. This is a test from Allah. Whoever wants to know about the magic, were first warned by the angles that this is magic which is kufr before teaching them the magic. This was a test obviously. The people want to be the ones with power (so they want to know/learn the magic. Magic can do things quickly.) Or because they were curious

فل تكفر وما يعلمان من أحد حتى يقول ما نحن فتنة إن

but neither of these two angels taught anyone (such things) till they had said,

"We are only for trial, so disbelieve not (by learning this magic from us)."

So Bani Israel learn magic by 2 ways : 1) Shayateen were tricking the people & teaching the magic; saying (falsely) that this magic is from Prophet Sulayman 2) Whoever Haroot & Maroot taught magic to, have to make an announcement

first before anything starts : the angels told that ما نحن فتنة ) we are only a trial“ إن

for the people) ” = this is fitnah, but the people still learn magic for a test or for curiosity. The problem is that curiosity can lead to kufr. Sometimes it is hard to get out of something that can lead you astray. So do not learn about magic or about other religions even for the sake of knowledge or for curiosity , because it can lead to fitnah. People who visit temples , etc are at a risk because we do not know what can be in the heart & how their heart can change . “Fitnah” is anything that can affect your heart ( affecting the way you think of Allah and how you believe ) . Faith is like a white cloth that be stained easily. What you hear or see can be fitnah ; thus Haroot

& Maroot declared “ ما نحن فتنة we are fitnah” before starting to teach magic“ / إن

to the people meaning people will use magic once they learn it .

So when Allah Said :

,”so disbelieve not “ فل تكفر -

this means that magic is fitnah and kufr. When someone gets magic done on them, it may be that they may have done magic on others ! For people who gain a way to shaitan, they will not know how to get rid of it. Already it is troublesome ; what more when people called for it . eg Some students call shaitan ( magic) to bring the exam papers to them before the exam ! Once this is done, they cannot get rid of it .

2 kinds of magic 1. Haqeeqi (real)

magic that can really change someone, especially pertaining to emotions. Eg : magic makes one hate whom she loves . Magicians disbelieve in Allah. They use parts of the victim hair or nail, etc to do magic.

What protects from magic : Ayat ul Kursi tawakkul ‘ala Allah Al Adzkar (Dzikr) Surah Al Ikhlas , Al Falaq, An Naas – when magicians with wicked soul

blow on knots, it will have an evil effect . eg :

ت فى ٱلعقد ) ـ ث ـ ف (٤ومن شر ٱلن "And ( I seek refuge with Allah) from the evil of those who practise

witchcrafts when they blow in the knots, (4) (Surah Al Falaq)

However , in the case of making RUQYA, when the good souls ( believers) blow when making ruqya, there is a healing effect .

2. Wahlee (illusion) This is magic that is an illusion / trick . Example : The magic of the Pharaoh is just an illusion/ trick. So don’t look at magic tricks, movies about magicians, magic tricks games, because they can easily be tied into it if their hearts are hasty ( wanting fast results) & not strong in faith .

A person will be a disbeliever if he resorts in both types of magic : the real magic & the illusional magic

Ayat 2/102 talks about the real magic :

قون بهۦ بين ٱلمرء وزوجهۦ فيتعلمون منهما ما يفرAnd from these (angels) people learn that by which they cause separation between

man and his wife

Whoever deal with magic goes through the learning process like getting a

degree. يتعلمون Shows they learn like a school and they qualify as being an

excellent magician , a very good one, or a good magician , etc . Allah said that between the husband and wife there is a special love, mercy and

companionship. Magic can separate the wife and husband. Hate will be turned to love, & love will be hate. Magic is all about the dunya. They use these magic to make a man divorce his wife to marry another. Or just for wickedness.

To take care of one self (inside and out ) is important because the shaytan loves unclean things. A man sent Shaitan to bring a girl to him but failed because she reads Ayat ul Kursi . Defeat evil by returning to Allah. We cannot protect ourselves except by Allah’s Will.

ين بهۦ من أحد إل بإذن ٱلل وما هم بضار“but they could not thus harm anyone except by Allâh's Leave.”

But in the end, no magic will happen unless by Allah’s leave. Reliance on Allah protects us. Allah is the only one who can protect. We take precautions but at the end of it all, Allah is the one who can do everything . So rely on Allah , take the means and nothing can harm you. Our fear of magic should make us seek refuge from Allah and not seek wrong ways . Even when it happens, there is Hiqmah

Allah in it. ين they will not harm at all “ except by Allah’s “ وما هم بضار

permission . Magic harms 100 % :

هم ول ينفعهم ويتعلمون ما يضرهAnd they learn that which harms them and profits them not.

There are things which Allah forbade: drinking, gambling, etc . These are different haram things, some of them have small benefits but in the end they cause harm. The worst thing that has no benefits at all is the sins of magic and it only has 100 % harm. All magicians collect money but there is no benefit. Look at where they live and how they live - they live miserably in a dark and empty

world. They look miserable. They get no benefit from their money & they look ugly because Shaitan possesses them.

Allah said in the Ayat:

ه ما له ق ۥ فى ولقد علموا لمن ٱشتر ـ ٱلخرة من خلAnd indeed they knew that the buyers of it (magic) would have no share in the

Hereafter.

Allah also said: ه ishtaraahu” as if they “purchased’ it - they give away the“ / ٱشتر

pure and clean Divine Books with something ugly, & impure, nothing close to purity (ie this magic). And they sell themselves to the magic (that is the shaytan). Allah said if they really know the reality of magic, they wouldn’t come close to it. They lose Akhirat & they lose all their lives.

ولبئس ما شروا بهۦ أنفسهم And how bad indeed was that for which they sold their own selves

They sell themselves to the magicians because they sell themselves to the shaitan !

لو ڪانوا يعلمون

“ if they but knew” .

If they really know the reality ( evil ) of magic, none will come close to it.

We feel how wicked the magicians are and yet in Ayat 103 , Allah grants them ( the magicians & users of magic ) a chance to repent as long as they are alive.

خير هم ولو أن ن عند ٱلل مقوا لمثوبة (٢٠١ لو كانوا يعلمون ) ءامنوا وٱت

And if they had believed and kept from evil, a recompense from Allah would be better, if they only knew. (103)

Allah is stretching His Hands to them for their Tawbah.

هم . if they will’ Allah said there is still chance for them‘ ولو أن

And if they had believed and kept from evil, ie if they go back to Allah / ءامنوا وٱتقوا

, then :

خ ن عند ٱلل م a recompense from Allah would be / لو كانوا يعلمون ير لمثوبة

better, if they only knew.

If they know they have Allah Who Forgives their sins, they will renew their faith ie

قوا .They will abstain from their sins . ءامنوا وٱت

Once they

o repent, & o cut themselves off from doing this sin (magic ) anymore , & o they abstain from doing this sin again in the future , o renew their faith o Then Allah accepts their tawbah.

Although it is difficult for sinners like magicians to قواءامنوا وٱت and to renew their

faith in Allah , but once they do this, then ل خير مثوبة ن عند ٱلل a / م

recompense from Allah would be better. Allah promises them ie ‘ a reward مثوبة

comes to you khair from ie a reward better than what you imagine from عند ٱلل

Allah ’ . Allah said this to a person who is bad. Imagine someone who is good? Noone is like

Allah. When the sinners return to Allah, He will Accept them. Allah accommodate

everybody. قوا .amanu wattaqau” will cost a lot to the magicians“ ءامنوا وٱت

When the magicians repent, they have some nurturing from Allah like illnesses as an

expiation of their sins for 20-30 years . This is nurturing is to test if they will go back

to magic or they will continue in repentance to achieve Paradise. One magician

repented and all the shayateen went against him making his wife & children die (

with the Will of Allah) but he maintained on Allah’s Path. This Nurturing is to Test if

they really want Paradise or just return to worldly things. The repentance is when

they know akhirah is better than now . Akhirat is better than now . Akhirat is

khair/good , لو كانوا يعلمون “ if they only knew”.

CONTINUE SURAH AL BAQARAH Ayat 186

إذا دعان ألك عبادى عنى فإنى قريب وإذا س ا فليستجيبوا لى أجيب دعوة ٱلد(٢٨١وليؤمنوا بى لعلهم يرشدون )

And when My slaves ask you (O Muhammad SAW) concerning Me, then (answer

them), I am indeed near (to them by My Knowledge). I respond to the invocations of the supplicant when he calls on Me (without any mediator or intercessor). So let

them obey Me and believe in Me, so that they may be led aright.[] (186)

This Ayat 186 came after talking about Ramadan. This Ayat talks about Allah’s

Closeness & how to attain Allah’s closeness

The previous Ayat 185 talk about fasting ( magnifying Allah ie giving thanks to

Allah) & ولعلڪم تشكرون la’allakum tashkurun. As reward for you for

shukr , Allah will give more closeness to Allah which is very special.

After ولعلڪم تشكرون in Ayat 185 , Allah opens the gate to doa ( in Ayat 186)

for His slaves to get even closer to Allah, the Most Great.

In the time of you making the dua, Allah is Close to you by His Knowledge ,

Support, Love & Companionship. And it is in the time of you making doa

that Allah will Respond to you (by His Knowledge , Support, Love &

Companionship) . When you make a doa for Allah, he will respond in different

ways.

You need to care about making doa – not about the response.

Ya Rabbi, Guide me to make doa.

When you make doa, Allah WILL respond. But ( while making doa) do not decide already in your mind what is good for

you. Sometimes the dua might not be good for you. Allah is the only one who knows. But the dua for the Akhirah is always good for everything . For Dunia, doa can be good or bad. Doa of Rasulullah salallahu alaihi wa sallam about Dunia is always related to the Akhirat because that is the khair – about righteous

children, about wealth which will be used to obey Allah, etc - doa dunia which is associated with akhirat is khair.

The duas for the dunia which are something of a plea to be close to Allah is all related to Akhirah. Dua is more than just a plea, it’s a submisson to the creator. We don’t want doa that take us away from Allah

We are ‘ajuul / hasty and we are jahuul / ignorant - we don’t know what is good for ourselves.

So you make a general dua for goodness for your own self but we don’t know what is specific khair. We tend to go to specific but we do not know what is specifically good for us. Allah is the only one who knows what is good / “Khair” for you.

You need submission in the dua because you don’t know what is good/healthy for your own self. ( sometimes there is no submission in the doa) . And humans are ‘ajuul & jahuur ; & all want the Dunya and desired things but those things might take you away from the faith or they may be bad for you.

We humans get influence so quickly to the worldly things especially with advertisements today. It’s all about completing your desire but Dunia is NOT the place to complete & perfect our desire but Dunia is place to perfect our deeds . We don’t know if it is good for us. We all want things that will help complete our deeds and take us to the right path

The Dunya is to complete and perfect all the deeds. The Akhirah is the reward at the end line, everything there is perfect. In Akhirat, Paradise , Allah will perfect all to fulfill your desires. ( you, your house & garden , etc ) .

Struggle in life is all about wanting perfection in life. Expectations for perfection that are implemented in anything ruins everything. We always want that perfect maid, cook & driver , or perfect children even perfect husband but they do not exist. Examples: relationships or marriage, you see so many relationships between friends or marriages fail because of the expectations that everyone has (unrealistically portrayed in novels, books, movies etc). Movies show is what is ideal & perfect & can influence us . Movies are deception .

Our priority is not to complete our desires, but to complete our journey that pleases Allah . Use Dunia to help you to get reward , to reach Allah. Do not be extreme but in moderation .

Dunia should serve us to reach Allah. We are not to serve Dunia to reach Allah .

Our priority is not to complete our desire but my priority is : Ya Rabbi, I want Muttaqeen , & Mukminin. We should aim to complete our task in Dunia & in Paradise , Allah will complete your desires. Allah will put the desires in our mind just so He can fulfil these desires in Paradise. Doa is not just to fulfill desire but doa is a submission to Allah. Doa is from the Rahmah of Allah so that when we have imperfections in our life, we submit to

Allah which then results in us being elevated in rank. Doa is not about the doa itself but it about your Closeness to Allah (to achieve the closeness to Allah).

Ad Doa Al Jameel / Beautiful Doa The aim and purpose of doa is submission and to be a slave of Allah – to show to Allah “ I need You ” via doa . ENJOY MAKING DOA OURSELVES & without burden, because :

Doa Ad Jameel is the Doa of Submission which is the way of salvation , honor, elevation, & to be a slave of Allah.

The Response to the doa is by the Will of Allah

– if good, He will Grant it , but if not, He will Deny it.

Making dua is salvation and elevation. There is a salafi who made doa. He may get one doa answered but Allah may

deny fulfilling another doa . He said he prefers the DOA ALLAH DENIED because ALLAH CHOSE this FOR HIM . When we doa for khair / good , we never know WHAT is good – so whichever doa Allah choose is khair . This is a high level of submission . The man feels more happy when Allah is the One who chooses for him. It is good when doa we choose is answered but doa that Allah choose for us is best . eg when a friend who is travelling asked you if you want anything , you give her a list . But with another friend , you tell her to choose for you . You will appreciate the one who chose for you more because she had put her thoughts into this effort .

Three people were asked how they would like to die. The first 2 specified what they preferred. The third one said I don’t know which is the best way to die but which ever one Allah chooses for me is the best for me. Submit to Allah. This a different dimension of doa : submission, humiliation to Allah, and to be a slave of Allah :

إذا دعان وإذا سألك عبادى عنى فإنى قريب ا فليستجيبوا لى أجيب دعوة ٱلد(٢٨١وليؤمنوا بى لعلهم يرشدون )

So let them obey Me and believe in Me, so that they may be led aright.[] (186)

There is submission in the above Ayat when Allah said: “ let them respond to Me and believe in Me to be rightly guided “ . Doa is submission for closeness to Allah .

( fal yastajeebuu li / they will respond to Allah ) .

/istijaaba They need to “istijaabah li amrillah..”/ respond to the Commands of Allah

/Al inqiyaad

They will respond to Allah with submission, ie / “ Istijaaba” . In this

word, the letters ( alif, seen, ta) means “seeking “ . Here seeking means

“submission” to ALLAH (by seeking / responding) . “istajaba” is to

respond to Allah with submission . They are doing = (seeking) submission to the Commands of Allah . This Ayat is more than making doa because you need something. We are making

doa because we want to eb close to Allah . We make doa to submit to Allah. We do not make doa only when we have a need ; although Allah will respond to the doa of need ( ie doa made when we need something) too.

Doa as a submission is a command by Allah. Thus doa is now an ibadah. Don’t just doa when you want the worldly things. We make doa because we are responding , submitting to Allah so as to be close to Him. Don’t make doa only when I need something . Make doa as if it is an ibadah in itself taking us to Jannah. Doa is submission to Allah ( like fasting is to magnify Allah).

When making doa , we raise our hands up in submission. That is why shaitan is not capable to whisper to you from the top. In the Quran, Allah mentioned that Shaitan will whisper from the right , left , front & back ; but not from up or below because :

o Up : This is the connection with Allah. In our response to Allah, when we raise our hands in making doa , our doa, prayer, fast , & any good deeds all go to Allah .

o Down : This is our ‘ubudiyyah to Allah ; when we submit, when we lower ourselves in prostration /sujud & when we are closest to Allah. Shaitan cannot be between you and Allah.

However, Allah mentions that the shaitan can whisper to you from front & back, left and right.

“Iman billah”

is to have certainty & belief in Allah without any doubts. Iman billah should be attached to you

In , the word shows something is attached to you .

(Al taSdeeq bilaa shak)

Al Iman is “ to believe without doubt “

Al Iman is “ to believe without doubt “ = To have a strong faith in Allah without any doubt and must be attached to you. To make doa is to have faith that Allah is Hearing me, Seeing me, Respond to me. I am talking ( in my doa) to the Most Powerful, the One who has more Mercy than anyone else. The One who has the Perfect Names & Attributes. This is belief in that He will respond to you, and He will Reward you, & knows your affairs , etc. the doa need faith . All ibadat is based on faith . So I need to know why I am doing this, for whom I am doing this, who send it to me.

Then my a’mal ( deeds, eventhough little) , will build on my faith. Then our faith will be strong. A’mal is based on faith . Ibadah is weak when our faith / iman is low

We have to build & renew our faith . When we renew our faith, we enjoy doing our ibadah & we are motivated to do the ibadah. When we begin to feel that our ibadah is routine, we need to renew our faith. Eg when we get bored of our 30 year old furniture, we need to change even if it means moving the sofa, or change one color. When we renew even a little in life, we feel good. So when we renew faith , this gives motivation & energy.

When we make dua , it must be with yaqeen and faith . Do not doa routinely . When we do something for the first time, we feel excited but then it gets routine. This is when we must re-assess ourselves. We cannot allow doing ibadat to be routine. We must feel motivated & excited all the time.

Hence we must renew our faith : o by learning about Allah, o reflect & ponder on the Universe , o reading & pondering on the Quran, o Everything should increase your faith – beach, desert, sky , & even when

we are sitting . Even when you are looking at yourself ( not to admire yourself & feel proud ) but in pondering . Everything can increase your faith because it’s a test.

(٢٨١فليستجيبوا لى وليؤمنوا بى لعلهم يرشدون )

So let them obey Me and believe in Me, so that they may be led aright.[] (186)

is about making the doa : respond to Allah by submission (ie the فليستجيبوا لى

doa) .

يؤمنوا بىول : we need to have belief in Allah .

So the formula is :

Respond to Allah & you will get Faith, then we will لعلهم يرشدون (so

that they may be led aright ) ie we will be / the Rightly Guided (Rashada, Raashd) .

: These are 2 things as means to get in order to

have / Yarshuduun . What is ?

Al Rushd = Yahtaduuna ila Ahsani Al TaSarruf

At Tasarruf

/ Ar Rushd is the best of Guidance. will be guided to the best of At-Tasarruf ( hoe they deal , their attitude & way in their lives) .

: eg : There are bad situations , or worse

or good. The best in dealing with these different situations is . There is bad kalam, good kalam , the best kalam That best kalam, or the best in dealings with different situations means you are guided to the Rushd.

We want to be Rightly Guided to be the best ( ) . Shaitan has different tricks. One of the tricks of shaitan is to come with

whisperings to disbelief, shirk, bid’ah, major kufr & minor kufr. When the person is strong & he recognize that what shaitan whispers is minor kufr, then Shaitan

change its strategy ! Between 2 good deeds (one good deed carries less hasanat ) , shaitan will beautify the good deeds with less hasanat . Hence a person is tricked into getting less hasanat . Shaitan will stop you more getting more hasanat . Even shaitan will make you good deeds BUT he one with LESS REWARDS .

is at the top . These are those who want / Tareeqan Al

Rushd. The way to achieve this is only by ie by

responding to Allah ( via doa) and rough having faith . Allah will rightly guide to

best of decisions.

The whole Quran is not about us, but about Allah. About how you have faith in Allah

& Allah will Guide you, will Give you, will Protect you - all about Actions of Allah. Our

role is to have our heart go to Allah . We must rely on Allah & He is the One to Guide

us.

So is . eg I meet someone in a difficult situation

but I don’t know what to tell her . If you had be from before , Allah will

rightly guide you to take the best decision. So you will take the best decision in this

difficult situation in front of you now. Often we don’t know what to do, what to say

in difficult situations. We want guidance from Allah .

Hadith : “ Know Allah in the time of ease & Allah will be with you in the time of

difficulties “ .

Eg In Ramadhan , is time of waqt shiddah where we need to work hard in these 30 days of Ramadhan .

We need to take the effort to know Allah in the 11 months before Ramadhan so that in this 1 month in Ramadhan, when we want to make the most

beneficial efforts, Allah will Guide us to make these efforts. We cannot wait last minute in Ramadhan to know Allah & decide last minute that you want to do this ibadah or that ibadah . Ramadhan is time of SHIDDAH meaning

there will be so much stress . We need to really believe , & know about the faith during the easy times ( like now) .

Work hard in the easy time so that we will find it easy in the hard time.

In Haj, the difficult time is in the day . In the salat is time of shidd because we need focus. We need to prepare , to be good before salat in order to be good IN the salat. Be good in easy time to be easy in times of trial. Alhamdulillah , time of shiddah is not much.

Prayer is only 5 times a day & it is only a short time of shiddah - we have the rest of the day to train ourselves ; we have hours to train for this 5 minutes of shiddah in each prayer, Subhanallah.

For Haj we prepare for it all our life for this once in a lifetime ibadah. For Ramadhan, we have the 11 months to prepare for this one month.

Cannot do it last minute . Ibadat is time shiddah . We need faith & submission to get tareeq al rashd ie

To be rightly guided in the time of shiddah. We don’t have so much time during the time of shiddah . We need to utilize this time of shiddah to the best of our benefit . You may find that Ramadhan came but it left with you doing very little !! SO we MUST PREPARE FOR THE TIEM OF SHIDDAH . WE MUST PREPARE FOR THE TIME OF RAMADHAN , HAJ, SOLAT, etc. Eg We need to prepare so much from the time before the prayer , so that we go into the prayer Dhohr . But from morning till solat Dhohr , we are shopping ! Or from morning till Dhohr, we are studying . Which solat can we say that we did it well ? If we are preparing during the pre-solat time, we find the solat is very satisfying . Compare this to if you are in a party mood before the actual solat time. So when we are busy before the solat time , we find we do not go into the solat well. If we are preparing , and thinking and strengthening our believe , then subhanallah, we feel deep in our solat. May Allah help us. We need Allah . We feel so much stress in these times but the relief is “ LA ILAHA ILLA ALLAH “ . Who said we can do it on our own ? When we get that tension , it is good tension in

order to make Allah. This is ie to be rightly guided in that time.

is believe in Allah & to respond to Allah so that when you make doa, it feels more than fulfilling a need. We make doa as submission to Allah . I trust Allah , & I believe in Allah . Then Allah will Rightly Guide us to Him to the best

of the faith . That is .

So has Al Hidayat & At Tawfeeq & At Taiseer ( to make it easy) in it .

RUSHD is like going to the park. You will be guided to be on that road (this is Hidayah). And you will be on that road to the Park till you reach the park ( this is Tawfeeq). And the road is easy, smooth ( At Taiseer) . These are Ar Rishd . All these are from DOA . Refer beginning of the Ayat again.

إذا دعان وإذا سألك عبادى عنى فإنى قريب ا فليستجيبوا لى أجيب دعوة ٱلد(٢٨١وليؤمنوا بى لعلهم يرشدون )

And when My slaves ask you (O Muhammad SAW) concerning Me, then (answer them), I am indeed near (to them by My Knowledge). I respond to the invocations of

the supplicant when he calls on Me (without any mediator or intercessor). So let them obey Me and believe in Me, so that they may be led aright.[] (186)

What is Allah doing ? Ans : ا . this is Allah’s Action أجيب دعوة ٱلد

What is your Action ? Answer :

. In the time of doa, what فليستجيبوا لى وليؤمنوا بى لعلهم يرشدون ان ذا دع

must you do ? Answer : Istijaaba ( doa is submission) , & Iman ( doa is belief in Allah)

. Then Allah will give you Ar Rushd . All in one Ayat . Subhanallah.

This Ayat is talking about doa in a different way – DOA as an IBADAH , as a SUBMISSION.

Afdhal Ad Doa

(1) Allah will give reward The best Afdhal Ad Doa is “ALHAMDULILLAH”. “ Alhamdulillah” is a kind of remembrance of Allah. Times of invocations ( the time of rain, the last 1/3 of the night , between adzan & iqamah) are specific and are times of shiddah. There is so much value in the times of shiddah. When we have only 1 minute to make doa, the best doa to make is “Alhamdulillah“ because you remember Allah & you praise Him. Hadith Qudsi : “ If you are busy remembering Allah , and this remembrance of Allah make you forget to make doa for yourself, Allah will give you better than what He gives the invoker ( who asks or invoke Allah to fulfill a need ) “ . This Hadith Qudsi mentioned that he is busy in making remembrance of Allah / dzikrAllah and this remembrance of Allah ( to the point of forgetting to ask for himself ) make him deserve better than those who do invoke Allah . Submission to Allah is better than submission to ourselves . Test in our lives is submission to Allah – not submission to our wants . In the time of Rasulullah SAW , the sahabah will love to eat whatever he ( salallahu alaihi wa salam) loved to eat. If you love Allah, you want His Closeness . So when we make doa, we will choose to praise Allah because in doing so, it is as if you are making doa for Allah’s Love , ie you want Allah to love you. See examples in life . Doais to praise Allah so Allah will give you His Closeness . Allah’s Love & Pleasure is more than the Dunia . So why are we wanting what is less? The reward of Allah’s Pleasure is very big . So you praise Allah & you magnify Him, especially with “Alhamdulillah” . Then you get His Nearness & His Closeness ( refer Ayat 2/186).

first , THEN قريب Allah Mentioned about ألك عبادى عنى فإنى قريب وإذا س

He mentioned about the doa : إذا دعان ا What is important is . أجيب دعوة ٱلد

the Closeness to Allah & He will give you Dunia AND Akhirah.

(2) Allah will unite hearts

When you make doa , it is better to make a doa in secret to avoid worldly desire on our part. Refer Ayat Al A’raf / 55 :

سورة االٴعراف

ا وخ ع كم تضره (٥٥ۥ ل يحبه ٱلمعتدين ) إنه فية ٱدعوا ربInvoke your Lord with humility and in secret. He likes not the aggressors. (55)

When we make doa unknown to the person we are asking it for , there is an angel that says , “ for you, the same”.

(3) Allah will purify our hearts from sins / sickness of the hearts .

This is the best way because this indicates ikhlas / sincerity . We are not making doa to get praise, to get acceptance or for worldy gains. Shaitan make us do what is least & forget the big rewards.

A doa that is guaranteed ( to have it happen to you too) is when we doa for someone else & to make it in secret where the other person does not know.

Imagine a society where everyone make doa for others behind their back, then Allah guarantee everyone will have the reward too & Allah will Unite their hearts ( because the doa was made behind her back). It is not about what we do but it is about how we believe in Allah. Doa is submission for the whole Ummah . Refer Ayat Al A’raf / 55 :

كم اٱدعوا رب ع (٥٥ۥ ل يحبه ٱلمعتدين ) إنه فية خ و تضرهInvoke your Lord with humility and in secret. He likes not the aggressors. (55)

ا ع .Is to make doa in a desperate way , begging Allah eg to forgive them تضره

Doa is very strong when we have deep feeling when invoking. Doa should be

ا ع ie straight from the heart . We make doa for others as if it is for me . Ths تضره

creates Unity.

(4) When we doa we have closeness to Allah

When we are close to Allah, we will hide the doa. And we will not announce what

doa we make. ا ع humility and in secret” is“ فية خ و تضره

(i) perfect in lkhlas . (ii) greater in iman /faith (iii) unite the heart
