Tacoma's calls for bids asking contractors to meet the City's needs on a range of supplies, services, and proj-ects. Here is a short-list of some recent and notable calls for bids issued from Tacoma City Hall.

First, the City is accepting bids on a major public works project that will reconstruct a nearly-1.5-mile section of Port of Tacoma Road, according to a legal notice published this week in the Tacoma Daily Index. According to City and Port of� cials, the asphalt road serves as the main truck route into the Port's indus-trial area, and is currently in poor condition. Accord-ing to bid documents prepared by City staff, the $9.25 million project will replace approximately 7,800 feet of Port of Tacoma Road (between East 11th Street to Marshall Avenue) with concrete to better withstand heavy truck traf� c. The project also includes complet-ing several missing segments of sidewalk, which will meet current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards; installing permanent traf� c signals at the entrance to the Washington United Terminal and at Lincoln Avenue; creating a conduit for future Intelli-gent Transportation System along the entire project length; and constructing a water line from East 11th Street to Lincoln Avenue. Second, the City is accepting bids from contrac-tors to install agency-supplied signs on existing posts along South 56th Street, replace posts where required, and return salvaged signs to the City of Tacoma, ac-cording to information on the City's Web site. The proj-ect budget is estimated at approximately $10,000 to $12,000. The bid deadline expires at 11 a.m. on Thurs., March 12. More information is available online at cit-yoftacoma.org. Finally, pool sharks take note — the City has put a surplus billiard table up for sale. According to infor-mation posted on the City's Web site, the pool table, which is located at 5016 A St., is in "good condition [with] no tears in the felt, beautiful legs, leather pock-ets are in nice shape, could use new balls. Pool cues are so-so." The bid deadline expires on Weds., March 4. More information is available online at cityoftacoma.org.

will hold a fundraising event this week in Ta-coma.

The Chinese Reconciliation Park (pictured) opened in 2011 and aims to commemorate the expulsion of more than 200 Chinese people from their Tacoma homes and businesses on Nov. 3, 1885. The park includes a garden, winding foot paths, bridge, Ting pavilion gifted by the City of Fuzhou, sea wall, public art, interpretive dis-plays, and recreation areas.

Individuals who attend the Chinese Recon-ciliation Project Foundation Dinner and Auction this week may enjoy food and wine, learn more about future plans for the Chinese Reconcilia-tion Park, and bid on prizes during a silent auc-tion.

The event will be held on Fri., March 6, be-tween 5:30 p.m. and 9 p.m., at Bates Technical College, located at 1101 S. Yakima Ave., in Ta-coma. Tickets are $60 each. More information is available online at tacomachinesepark.org or by sending an e-mail to [email protected].

The proposed project, Point Defi- ance Park, is located at 5401 North Pearl Street, Tacoma, WA, Pierce County. This project involves 0.94 acres of soil disturbance for utilities construction activities. Stormwater will be discharged to North Pearl Street outfall.

Any persons desiring to present their views to the Washington State Depart- ment of Ecology regarding this application, or interested in Ecology’s action on this application, may notify Ecology in writing no later than 30 days of the last date of publication of this notice. Ecology reviews public comments and considers whether dis- charges from this project would cause a measurable change in receiving water quality and, if so, whether the project is necessary and in the overriding public interest according to Tier II anti- degradation requirements under WAC 173-201A-320.

A permanent traffic signal will be constructed at the entrance to the Washington United Terminal and a new signal will be constructed at Lincoln Avenue.
