Our present enrolment is 719 children and it appears we will have 4 Kindergarten classes in 2021. Kinder enrolments have been steady, but we need to monitor enrolments very closely in the next little while. With a large Year 6 cohort of 125 leaving TPPS at the end of the year, we may reduce by a class in 2021. This would also mean a demountable will be taken away and the reduction of one teaching position. Traditionally, we welcome new families into our area, which does increase our enrolments, so if you are aware of any new families moving into our area, please have them contact our office staff as soon as possible. Likewise, if you are aware of any Kindergarten children that will be commencing in 2021, we encourage those families contact the office to begin the enrolment process. At this stage, we are not sure how our Kindergarten Orientation will look, nor can we give you an answer about the Year 6 Farewell. We are hoping that Term 4 will see an update in COVID protocols, which will assist us in making some decisions for Term 4. Our Presentation Assembly will be affected and could look like four smaller assemblies to mark the successes of 2020. Our Year 6 children are starting the next chapter of their lives with high school transition and upcoming orientation days. Local schools will keep our children up to date with their planning. This week, we had our first P & C Meeting via Zoom, which enabled a lot of catching up and information to be disseminated. My thanks to everyone for your gift of time supporting the children of our school. We also would like to thank our P&C for coordinating the Father's Day Stall via QKR. 77-105 Bangalay Drive, PORT MACQUARIE. From Mr Harris Dear Parents and Caregivers

Welcome to Week 8… a term that has gone quickly and within two weeks we will be on holidays!

I know the children loved the experience and also to take precious presents home for Dad. My many thanks to the families who also sent photos in for the Father's Day iMovie which was posted on Facebook, Monday of this week. My many thanks to the families who have supported wearing of the correct school uniform. It is a versatile and smart uniform which we are proud of and your support to maintain our high dress code is greatly appreciated. Of late, we have seen introductions of various versions of the uniform, however, I’m pleased to say it is slowly returning to the standard that we had before COVID commenced. Uniforms at any time can be a contentious issue and I note that. I also acknowledge that we are in very difficult times at the moment and many families are suffering financial stresses. The school uniform guidelines are regularly updated and any changes or alterations must be ratified with all stakeholders.

Please find attached our current guidelines which have been ratified with the school and our P & C. This would have been last updated at the end of 2019. It is due for a yearly update which will at least include the addition of socks to the Uniform Shop.

We continue to have some issues on our school buses, with some of our children making poor choices. There is every likelihood that some children will end up losing their bus pass and we ask parents to discuss this with their children to avoid this consequence from happening.

A very big congratulations to our Tournament of Minds teams from 5/6N. Mrs Jordan, Mr Thompson and myself had the privilege of viewing their presentations on Thursday. The skills, commitment and creativity shown was a credit to them all. I know Mrs Nelson is incredibly proud of all four teams, especially having to ‘adjust’ presentations to cater for Covid this year. We wish them all the very best over the weekend, when we expect announcements to be made about successful teams.

I will be on Long Service Leave in Week 10 this term and Mrs Jordan will be Relieving Principal during that time. Mrs Moritz will also be relieving Deputy Principal for that last week of school.

Message from the Deputy Principals We came across a children’s picture book the other day called ‘It's Okay to Make Mistakes’ by Todd Parr. It’s a very simple, fun story that embraces life's happy accidents. It explores the mistakes and mess-ups that can lead to self-discovery and encourages us to try new things, experiment, and dare to explore new paths. It has great relevance to the learning journey of all children at Tacking Point and the importance of taking chances, trying new things, and embracing life, mistakes and all. It’s a very simple way of looking at how ‘making mistakes’ is a normal and very important stage in the growth of a learner, both in the school environment and in life in general. The book helps children think about how to not be afraid to make mistakes as they are necessary for personal growth.

As a learner, children need to know that it’s rare to get something 100% correct when you carry out something new the first time you try. They need to know that they will probably make mistakes. What they do after making the mistake, the way they deal with this experience and the changes they make leads to achieving greater success. Conversations around ‘you’re just going through a normal process’ helps to put everything in perspective and leads to greater risk taking and discovery in our students journey of learning. Here are some key conversation points to think about when mistakes are made.

You aren’t the first Everyone makes mistakes. What’s more, millions of people experienced the same mistakes before you. It’s easy to imagine you’re the first to be unsuccessful, but you’re not alone. When you make an error, be kind to yourself. Remember, everyone fails to achieve the results they want at times, and doing so is part of forming the life you want.

Mistakes are stepping stones Each mistake takes you one step closer to your goal. It increases your wisdom and experience, so you know more the next time you face a similar challenge. Focus, not on failure, but on progress and see mistakes as helpful. Remember, every mistake is useful. It shows you what not to do next time and urges you to try a new angle that might work. Carry on, and you’ll find a way forward.

You’re gaining strength Mental resilience comes from making mistakes and learning from the experience. Mistakes build strength and courage. Every time you get through difficulties, your emotional muscles flex. Your resilience gives you the tenacity to continue and overcome new obstacles on your path.

You’re growing emotionally You can’t change into a wiser version of yourself unless you transform. Like a caterpillar, you must undergo experiences that change you to become a greater version of yourself. You grow as a person when you make mistakes too. Your insights expand, you gain self-awareness, and you’re better able to understand others because, when you see them make mistakes, you’ve been there before and can empathize.

Tournament of Minds 2020 Students in 5/6N have enjoyed the wonderful opportunity of being involved in Tournament of Minds. We formed four teams: Language Literature, Social Sciences, The Arts and STEM to create a solution to a super challenge, ‘Quo Vadis’. Teams had to present their solutions on-line as well as document processes, values and behaviours that they came across throughout their 6 week journey. The teams gained valuable skills and an understanding of problem solving and discovery that incorporated essential future focus thinking skills. Students were expected to write their own scripts incorporating creative solutions to the challenge. They were also expected to make their own ‘props’, any prototypes needed, and create their own costumes to suit the challenge. The online submissions will be viewed by a panel of judges on the 9th September, 2020. We wish our fabulous TOM teams the best of luck! We are very proud of them!
