Table Talk December 2017
Merry Christmas everyone!
As Christmas nears and the final sessions of Bridge for 2017 are about to finish, it reminds
me to say thank you to all members for the super year we have shared.
Your committee has worked hard to make Bridge
a pleasurable experience for all and the signals we have received suggest we are moving in the
right direction.
Three events this year deserve special mention, firstly the unexpected passing of popular club
member Phil Clark, secondly the exceptional standard of this year’s lesson graduates., and
thirdly Lorraine Inglis becoming the Club’s first ever Grand Master
We, the committee, wish you all seasons
greetings and look forward to a bumper year of bridge in 2018, commencing on Tuesday 9
January.

Takapu Pairs prize - an apology At the Christmas prize giving a mistake was made when awarding the prize for the Takapu
Pairs. This is a mixed-grade competition, and the winning pair must include a Junior grade
player. Masterpoints Secretary Tracey made a mistake and awarded the prize to an
Open/Intermediate pairing.
This being the case, congratulations goes to Ynys Fa’atafa and Sharon Ferguson who won
the Takapu Pairs for 2017. Well done you two, and Tracey is very sorry for the mix-up.

Christmas Party 2017 Did you miss the Christmas Party? It was a great night. It began with drinks and nibbles and
lots of conviviality. We then honoured Lorraine Inglis, our Grand Master, presenting Lorraine
with her certificate and a lovely bunch of flowers. Lorraine also unveiled the new Grand
Master’s plaque – look for it above the door to the dining room.
We then settled into tables, and competed in a quiz, created by Ed Forsman. Thanks Ed, it
was fun Then came dinner where there was lots of really yummy food, we did ourselves
proud!. The evening ended with the prizegiving and the drawing of the raffles.
If you couldn’t make it this year for whatever reason, put next year’s one in your diary now –
it’s on December 7 2018 – that way you’ll be sure not to miss the fun!
If you missed the Christmas Party, and are interested in knowing who won what in
2017, check out the 2017 Winners document on the Results page on the website –
