Introduction You are in Denmark, Jutland, Viborg in a town with 44.000 citizens. A long way from your home. Probably accommodated somewhere in the Kaserne area. Whether it is your work, your urge for wisdom or simply Destiny that has brought you to this strange place on the planet named Viborg, you don’t need to panic. Student House 111 Student House 111 is a meeting place for all students enrolled in higher education in Viborg. The students can meet others from different study programs to play music, be creative, party and relax in each other’s company. The house includes a common area with a bar, stage, pool table, foosball table and cozy places to study, read and relax. There are also fully equipped music studios to practice alone or with your band.

Paying Utility Bills in Denmark Find out how to pay your electricity and gas bill and understand the service charges and pricing... Swimming Viborg Svømmehal, indoor swimming pool, sometimes opens at night. It includes a sauna, solarium, and a fitness centre. Banegårdspladsen 1.

Nørresø. Beach at the lake. Viborg Gymnastic Club has a good place to go bathing and swimming as long as you keep the place tidy and don´t play loud music. You can play beach-volley if you bring your own ball and the gym club is not going to use the volley ground. Sankt Laurentiivej 22 A. Should they ask you, tell them you come from The Animation Workshop. Nørresøbadet. A road called Gefionvej leads from Nørremøllevej to Nørresø, where you will find a bathing jetty and green lawns on the banks of the lake. Strandparken. Park at the southern end of Søndersø, where you can rest or take a swim. There is also a jetty for the boat “Margrethe I”. Søndersø. By the camping grounds on the south eastern side of Søndersø there is a bathing jetty where you can go swimming. go s Hald Sø 10 km. south of Viborg is a really nice place to go, see page 17. There are two places where you can go swimming in the lake, - at ”Skytteholm” in the northern end of the lake, - and from the bathing jetty in the southern end near Dollerup town. But watch out! It quickly gets deep, and the water is cold just underneath the surface.

Art & Museums Brænderigården, Riddergade 8, is an art hall with Danish and international exhibitions of contemporary art, crafts, photos and design. The gallery is located in an old distillery from the 1800s, and the buildings also contain an art school and workshops for artists. Archive and sale of Modern Danish graphics. The Museum informs you about the history of Viborg and its surroundings from the Stone Age until today. The museum shows its permanent collection as well as changing theme exhibitions. Parks

The Borgvold Park. Borgvold is the biggest of the old town parks. Here you will find the castle mound “Store Borgvold”, where the Viborg castle was built sometime before 1313. You will find numerous different trees and bushes as well as big flower beds with perennials, annuals, roses and rhododendrons. There is also a music pavilion, where open-air performances take place during the summer. In a corner of the park is a Biblical Garden, “Bibelhave”, with plants mentioned in the Bible. (J,K,L 8,9) Latinerhaven - The Latin Garden used to belong to the Cathedral School. The garden is divided into several small garden partitions each showing their special character. It is a really nice place to look at the summer flowers or take a rest on the benches. Stenhuggergården - Stone Mason Backyard of the Viborg Museum. With an entrance through the museum or from “Lille Hjultorvgyde” it is a small museum garden with roses and lavender. In the garden you will find tables and chairs where you can have a rest or bring food for a snack. Hans Tausens Minde - Hans Tausen´s Memorial. A small park where the Franciscans settled in Viborg in 1235. They built The Grey Friars’ monastery and a big church. The church was abolished and today only planted beech hedges mark the outlines of the former Grey Friars Church. Pilehaven - The Willow Garden. Small open space at Sct. Ibs Gade where hedges made of woven willow and maple branches have been grown on the banks of the northern lake “Nørresø”. Digterparken - Poets Park is one of the bigger parks with lawns and anorchard where you can taste the apples and pears.

Asmild Klosterhave -The Asmild Convent Garden. On the eastern side of the southern lake, you will find Asmild Church, one of the oldest stone churches in Denmark. The convent does not exist anymore, but the garden contains a collection of plants known and used in Denmark in the 12th, 13th, 14th, and 15th centuries, especially plants used for medicine. Nordisk Park, each of Viborg’s Nordic twin towns has an area with local plants and other landscape elements that are unique to their area.

Asmild Naturområde,The Green Quadrant is a pleasant green area for cycling and walking east of Viborg southern lake. The open grass-covered hills of Klostermarken (The Convent Fields) rise to the south above a valley where the stream “Mølleå” winds from Søndermølle to the small town of Bruunshåb through low meadows surrounded by oak and heather covered hills. You can get a leaflet with a map from the Tourist Information office.

Ødalen – Brunshåb. From Søndermølle the stream “Mølleå” runs two km. through a valley to Brunshåb and the old cardboard factory. North and east of the stream you will find marked paths for walking and bicycling.

Bruunshaab Old Cardboard Factory. A working factory museum with roots in the beginning of the industrial movement, situated in scenic surroundings. About 14 km vest of Viborg you can go underground and see the limestome mines at Daugbjerg or Mønsted.Take a taxi or take bus 28 to either of the towns and a taxi from there (or hike): Daugbjerg Kalkgruber, Daugbjerg, Dybdalsvej, 7850 Stoholm, www.daugbjerg-kalkgruber.dk Explore the limestone mines where more than 7000 bats live. In the caves are small exhibitions of fossils, tools and other things. After you have seen the mines you can take a walk in the Dybdal forest. Close to the mines is a kiosk where you can buy coffee and enjoy your lunch packet. Mønsted Kalkgruber, Mønsted Limestone Mine, Kalkværksvej 8, Mønsted, Stoholm, www.monsted-kalkgruber.dk, open 1.4-31.10. Up to 20-meter high caves with 2 km of illuminated galleries where you can walk on your own. On your way you will see small streams and underground lakes. The mine is the largest hibernation site for bats in Northern Europe and the old factory building contains a bat museum. Hald.The Hald area with Dollerup Hills, Stanghede Moor and Hald Lake contains some of the most beautiful places in Denmark, with varied landscapes of geological, botanical and ornithological interest.It is situated about 10 km. south of Viborg and you can get there by bus or bicycle. There is a very nice bicycle path from Koldingvej, Viborg through green fields and woods to Hald. You can get a folder with a map from the tourist office, where you can read about Hald and Dollerup. You will also find a description of the 5 Hald castles/manors and the lake.
