Thought
In his work , Joan Miró followed a trend called Surrealism.
He was a creator, he made art works from the ideas that he wanted to express.
He understood that Surrealism is an automatism which is inside ourselves.
He thought that all different ways of expression were valid.
He considered that one could create everything out of anything.
In his work it is more important the idea or the concept he wants to communicate rather than how the final result is.
WorkMiró used different ways of artistic expression to create his works and express his ideas.

Activity 1
Talk in pairs about Joan Miro’s works.
What has made you draw your attention?
How do they make us feel?
Do we like it?
Write down your opinions on a sheet of paper.
Activity 2
On the other side of the sheet where you
have written your opinion, draw the
symbols and graphism as Miró did.
Activity 3Draw lines in black felt-tip pen that covers all the surface to be coloured in any direction and intersecting. The spaces which are set while intersecting should be coloured in different primary and secondary colours, so that any adjacent colour can be repeated.Materials needed: Felt-tip pens or markers.
Important: Put the top on each felt-tip is not going to be needed and colour the same place in just one direction.
Activity 4On a sheet of paper create a composition
drawing lines and colouring the empty spaces as
done in the previous activity. Also draw some
doodles and elements as Miró did such as a
moon, a star, etc using black ink. Try to create
characters drawing some eyes (dots) in black ink
where your imagination let you.
Material: soft wax crayons (black, green, red,
yellow, blue)
You should give a name when finishing your
work.
Look at this Joan Miró’s work and some done by some
pupils.
Activity 5Observe and experience by drawing and colouring symbols and graphic art as Joan Miró did.

Activity 6
On a piece of newspaper.
Using water colour and a brush paint your new creation
with Joan Miró’s elements and style.
Your creation should consist of a few elements: a
character in black and some graphic art or typical element
belonging to Joan Miró. Afterwards, it should be
surrounded by primary colours and the complementary
green.
When your painting is finished and dry, stick it on a sheet.
Have a look at how Joan Miró did it.
Joan Miró painted large works.
Activity 7
Working in teams (those seated at the same table), you should make a copy of one of Joan Miró’s works but at big size. First of all, draw the main elements in pencil.
Once you see your composition is well proportioned on the paper sheet, paint together the different colour elements.
Work by layers: First the background, then the spots and in the end, lines.
Take into account as you paint (upwards-downwards, rightwards-leftwards, etc)
Material: White wrapping paper. Water colours and thick paintbrushes.
