PROFESSIONALANDPARAPROFESSIONALRESIDENCELIFESTAFFDirectorofResidenceLife The Director of Residence Life is a member of the Student Affairs Leadership Council responsible for thestrategicplanningandadministrativeoversightofResidenceLife,createsdepartmentalgoalsandstandardizeprocessesforstaffandstudents.TheDirectoralsoactsasaresourceagentinsupportofresidents,overseesparaprofessionalandstudentstaffselection,theirtrainingandevaluation.

AssistantDirectorofResidenceLife The Assistant Director of Residence Life collaborates with the Director of Residence Life to create acomprehensive residential experience and housing program. The Assistant Director of Residence Life isresponsiblefortheimplementationandoversightofkeyfunctionswithintheOfficeofResidenceLifeincludingrespondingtostudentissues,enforcementofdepartmentalpolicies,andstudentcrisesandemergencies.TheAssistant Director also oversees semester and break housing assignments, billing for room and board, andrepresentsResidenceLifeontheAccommodationsCommittee.AssistantDirectorofResidentialEducation The Assistant Director of Residential Education is responsible for the overall administration of acomprehensive residential education program. The Assistant Director of Residential Education workscollaborativelywithvariouscampusconstituentsonprogramsrelatedtoresidentialeducation,includingLivingLearning Communities, SUMMIT first-year experience, civic engagement, student leadership and other co-curricularexperiences.Throughengagingeventsandmeaningfulinteractions,residentialeducationpromotesholisticdevelopmentofallstudentsfromtheperspectiveofaliberalartseducation.ResidenceLifeOperationsCoordinator TheResidenceLifeOperationsCoordinatormanagesthedailyoperationalfunctionsoftheresidencehallsandofficeprojects,aswellasmanagesadministrativefunctionsfortheoffice, includingsubmittingworkorders,and supervising the Office of Residence Life assistants. In addition to managing the logistics of dailyoperations, the Residence Life Operations Coordinator supports students in a myriad of ways includingschedulingappointmentswithResidenceLifestaffandconnectingstudentswithcampusresources.GraduateAssistants TheGraduateAssistants (GAs) are paraprofessional, live-in staffwhoworkpart time in theOffice of Residence Life butwhohave significant eveningand weekend responsibilities in the residence halls. The GA plays asignificantroleinthelifeandoperationsoftheresidentialcampusatAgnesScott by providing staff-level on-call emergency support, student support,facilities management, residence hall programming, RA training andsupervision,andadministrativeprojects.ResidentAssistants Theresidentassistants(RAs)aretheupper–classResidenceLifestudentstaffwholiveintheresidencehalls,LivingLearningCommunitiesandAveryGlenapartments.RAsbuildcommunityintheresidencehallsandassistwithday-to-day interactions among students. Each RA is required to make roundswithintheirbuilding/house/complexwhen“onduty,”provideprogrammingopportunitiesforresidentsandmediateroommateconflictsasneeded.

CAMPUSHOUSINGREQUIREMENTAgnes Scott is a residential liberal arts institution. The residential environment is a key componentof eachstudent’scollegeexperience.Allstudentsarerequiredtoliveinmaincampushousingorcampusapartmentsduringtheirtenureatthecollege.Acontractissignedbystudentspriortomovinginatthebeginningoftheacademicyearandspringsemestertransferstudentssignahousingcontractpriortomovinginforthespringsemester. Any students seeking exception to the on-campus living policy must complete an off-campushousing request form. Authorization to live off –campus is granted at the discretion of the Director ofResidenceLife.Exceptionsinclude:

● StudentsintheAtlantaareawholivewiththeirparent(s)/guardian(s)withina30-mileradiusofcampus

● Studentsage24andover● Marriedstudents● Studentswithdependents● Studentswhoneedamedicalaccommodationsthatcannotbemetbythecollege

Housingisrestrictedtofull-timeenrolledundergraduatestudentsonly.Part-timestudentsorthosewhofallbelowfull-timecredithourscannotliveoncampuswithoutapprovalfromtheDirectorofResidenceLife.Studentsrequestingto liveoffcampusareencouragedtosubmit theirapplicationsbyMarch1st for thefallsemesterandNovember1stforthespringsemester.Newtransferandfirst-yearstudentsareaskedtosubmitrequestsbeforeJune1st.Theapplicationtorequestoff-campushousingcanbefoundonourwebsite.

DORMVS.RESIDENCEHALL“Dorm”and“residencehall”areoftenusedinterchangeably,howeverthereisahugedifferencebetweenthetwo.Thedictionarydefinesadormitoryas“aroomforsleeping,especiallyalargeroomcontaininganumberof beds.” It defines a residence as “a building used as a home.” Just asmore occurs in a home than justsleeping, more also occurs in a residence hall. The professional and semi-professional staff providesprogramming,socializing,counseling,emotionalsupport,discipline,leadershipskillsacquisitionandamyriadofopportunitiestogrowanddevelop.Ourgoalistoprovidemeaningfulandbeneficialprogrammingandactivitiesthatdevelopthewholeself.Frominvolvement in the campus associations to individual attention from your resident assistant, we provide avariety of services to help you, our residents, become successful. Our residence life staff is committed toprovidingthebestexperiencepossible,andtheymakethedifferencebetweenadormandaresidencehall.

RESIDENCEHALLSLivingoncampusisanintegralpartofthelivingandlearningexperience.TheOfficeofResidenceLifeprovidesaninteractivecommunity,notjustaplacetosleep.Allstaffandresourcessupporttheeducationalandsocialgrowthofstudentsastheytakeadvantageofthisbenefit.Residencehallsarealmostentirelyself-governedwithinthepoliciesofthecollegeandtheOfficeofResidenceLife.The ASC residential community is designed to be comfortable and inviting while providing students withdiverse residential options designed to support students’ transition to independent life after college. AllresidencehallroomshaveWi-Fiservices.Allbuildingshavecommontelevisionviewingareaswithbasicdigitalservicesandcommonlaundryfacilities.EachAveryGlenapartmenthas itsownwasheranddryer.Custodialservice isprovided inall commonareabathrooms, lounges,andcorridors in the traditional residencehalls.CustodialserviceisnotprovidedinAveryGlenapartments.Allcampusresidentialbuildings(excludingAveryGlenapartmentsandtheLivingLearningCommunityHouses)haveelevators.WinshipHall Winship Hall houses up to 140 first year students. Thisbuildinghasthreefloorsofresidentialspace.Anadditionalterrace-level floor contains a large common area completewith large tables, couches, a ping pong table, air hockeytable, large television, and other forms of entertainment.TheterracelevelisalsohometotheOfficeofResidenceLife.The residential floors provide traditional, double roomsequipped with air conditioning units that are individuallycontrolled.Eachofthethreeresidentialfloorsincludesstudyand television lounges and a common-use kitchen withmicrowave and refrigerator/freezer. WaltersHall Walters Hall also houses up to 140 first year students. Thishall provides traditional, double rooms equipped with airconditioningunitsthatare individuallycontrolled.TheGEMS(Generating Excellence in Math and Science) living andlearning community calls this building home, with theparticipants living on the second floor. Walters has threefloors of residential space and an additional terrace- levelfloorcontainingtheOfficeofInformationTechnologyServices(ITS). The first floor of Walters provides a common areasoftenusedasastudyspaceorfortelevisionviewing.Eachofthe three residential floors contain a common-use kitchenwith microwave and refrigerator/freezer. Walters is fullystaffed with one Graduate Assistant, and six ResidentAssistants.CampbellHall

Originallyanacademicbuildinghousingthecollege’sscienceprogramsandclasses,CampbellHallwas renovated intoaninnovative living-learning community which opened in fall2014.CampbellHallhouses85students insuite-style living.Each student suite has two double rooms and one semi-privatebathroom/commonarea.Roomsareequippedwithautomatic overhead lighting and keyless entry requiringaccess codesonboth suiteentrancesand individual rooms.Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessible rooms areavailable. Each of the three residential floors has its ownmodern kitchen/community space that includes a stove,

ConsolidationofHousingVacanciesandAdditionalHousingFees Students residing alone in a double room in the residence halls will be asked to consolidatewith anotherstudentlivinginadoubleroom.Studentswhowishtoremainintheircurrentaccommodationsandnothavearoommatewillpayanadditional charge tokeep their roomasa single (rateswillbe listedon theOfficeofResidenceLifewebsite).Studentselectingto live intheAveryGlenApartmentsmustclearlyunderstandthattheOfficeofResidenceLife reserves the right to reassign students in theAveryGlenApartments for thepurposeof consolidation.Residents inanapartmentwithavacancywillbegivenanopportunitytofill theapartmentwithamutuallyrequestedroommatepriortobeingassignedanewroommatebytheOfficeofResidenceLife.Residentswhorefuse to consolidate and lack themaximumoccupancy in the apartmentsmay be charged for the vacantspacebasedonthetypeofapartmentandcurrentrate.Buy-outsandsingleroomsarenotavailableduringtimesofpeakhousingdemandorstudentneeds.IftheBUY-OUToptionisavailable,thebuy-outchargewillbedividedequallyamongapartmentoccupantsandwillbechargedtotheiraccounttobepaidimmediately.SpecialMedicalHousingandMealPlanRequests Studentsseekingsuitablefurnishingsoraccommodationsduetomedical,psychological,and/orhealthrelatedconditions should contact the Office of Accessible Education. HOUSINGDURINGBREAKCLOSINGThroughout the academic year, there are four major break periods for students: Fall Break, ThanksgivingBreak,Winter Break and Spring Break. Each of these break periods requires students and staff to vacatehousingunlessotherwisenotedbelow.OpenBreaks FallBreakisconsideredan“open”breakperiodandtheresidencehalls,LLCsandapartmentsdonotofficiallyclose. Studentsareallowed to stay in their roomsduring thisbreakwithouthaving tobeapprovedby theOfficeofResidenceLife.LaborDayWeekend, Martin LutherKing Jr.Day andEasterBreak are longweekends anddonot requireclosingofthehallsorstudentregistrationwiththeOfficeofResidenceLife.SpringBreakandPeakWeek-ResidenceLiferequiresstudentstoindicatetheirintenttoremainincampushousingduringPeakWeek/Firstyear“Journeys”travelweekaswellasSpringBreak.ResidenceLifestaffwillstay on campus until their buildings are closed for Spring Break. All students (includingAveryGlen residents)whowish to stayduringbreakperiodsmust completeabreakhousingapplication.AveryGlenresidentsmustadheretothesamebreakhousingpoliciesestablishedfortheresidencehalls.Onlystudentsapprovedtostayforanyofthebreakswillbeallowedaccesstotheirdesignatedrooms/apartmentsforthebreak.Residentsarerequiredtovacatetheirroom/apartmentwithin24hoursaftertheirlastfinalexamandnolaterthantheofficialclosingdateandtimeoftheresidencehalls.Studentsshouldmaketravelplansaccordingly.Failure to checkout properly or checkout on time will result in a $100 improper checkout charge. CHECKINANDCHECKOUTPROCEDURESRAswillcompleteacheck-inRoomConditionReport(RCR)beforethestudentsmoveintotheirrooms.Upontheirarrivaloncampus,thestudentwillreceiveacopyofthisRCRandhavetheabilitytoaddcomments.AllareaslistedontheRCRshouldbecheckedthoroughlyandcommentswrittenforanydamagesnoted.Studentswillbenotifiedregardingthelocationforcheck-inviaemailpriortoarrivalformove-in/check-in.Beforecheckingout,studentsreceiveaformwithachecklisttodothefollowing:
