LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT & CHAIR

#SOCSC | 2

The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina has been carrying out the philanthropic mission of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine since 1996.

Our commitment to helping families and individuals overcome poverty has resulted in an investment of more than $70 million in South Carolina’s communities via grantmaking and partnerships. By focusing on health, education and social services, we’ve been able to distribute approximately 3,000 grants in all 46 counties.

Grounded in our six core values, we are refining our approach to combating poverty throughout South Carolina. In the last year, we’ve done some great work. We have:

• Continued our support of South Carolina’s Women Religious• Taken early steps to refine grantmaking• Expanded our advocacy initiatives• Began strategic planning• Reinforced our commitment to strengthening our grantee partners across the state• Partnered with organizations and influencers who share our mission of serving those living in poverty• Invested in Columbia’s student philanthropists through our Presidents’ Fellow and PLACE Fellows

programs• Held listening sessions throughout SC

For the last 22 years, we have been guided by our calling to serve others. This work couldn’t be carried out without the partnership and leadership of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine, our Board of Trustees and our dedicated staff.

When reading this report, we hope you will get a better understanding of the Foundation’s work through grants, policy, community engagement and initiatives. In addition, we hope you are inspired to help us fight poverty in South Carolina and beyond.

While grantmaking is what we do, it is important for us to not get lost in numbers and statistics. We know that each of our grantee and community partners touch lives, and that each of those lives belongs to one of God’s children. We are grateful for the many people that walk along with us in our quest to serve others across South Carolina.

In all things charity,

Thomas C. Keith, Foundation President Thomas Otis, Board of Trustees Chair
